Clemency Project launches 2004 campaign
The Michigan Battered Women's Clemency Project has launched it's 2004 campaign seeking justice for wrongly convicted women in prison for murdering their abusive boyfriends or husbands.
Ann Arbor, MI (PRWEB) May 18, 2004 --The all-volunteer effort coordinated by University of Michigan professor Carol Jacobsen has succeeded in obtaining delayed justice for two women serving life sentences in Michigan prisons since being founded in 1991 by former inmate turned advocate Susan Fair.
The Project is fueled by the passions of attorneys Lore Rogers, Lynn D'Orio, and Kammy Mizga.
Volunteers are needed to assist the attorneys in preparation of clemency petitions to be presented to Michigan Governor Jennifer M. Granholm at a rally in Lansing, Michigan in October. She is currently reviewing 19 cases with a decision hoped for soon.
Persons interested in volunteering should attend the May 26, 2004, meeting of the Clemency Project at the University of Michigan, Michigan Union, 625 South State Street, Ann Arbor, at 7:00 PM.
All are welcome regardless of gender.
The Michigan Battered Women's Clemency Project is sponsored by the Michigan Women's Foundation.
