A Case Report on the Effects of Consumption, Cessation of Consumption, and Reintroduction of Plasma Activated Water (PAW)

Share Article

The simple drinking of Plasma Activated Water (PAW) water has eased muskuloskeletal pain quickly and consistently. Additionally topical application of PAW to facial actinic keratoses (a precancerous skin condition related to sun exposure) has resulted in a cure never before possible with traditional medical/dermatological treatment (freezing of lesions with liquid nitrogen). While one might lean towards the thought that PAW is “Miracle” Water, in fact, the sound scientific basis for its origin and application potential is well documented from the scientific developmental work and the research findings of Hydro Enterprises Inc.

Hydro Enterprises, Inc. (HEI) (http://www.hydroent.com/index.htm) has been in research and development with Plasma Activated Water (PAW): "a breakthrough biotechnology that alters the molecular composition of tap water into an activated / monomolecular state or Plasma Activated Water (PAW) through an innovative non-thermal plasma process. The proprietary plasma process destroys and breaks down the molecular cluster of ordinary tap water changing the original composition into activated anti-bacterial water or PAW. The anti-bacterial features of PAW provide many valuable applications and cost saving solutions for the agriculture industry including the treatment, disinfecting, sanitizing and storage of food products."

Summary of Product Applications

"HEI believes that PAW is a very unique product. Currently, the USDA and FDA do not have any objections to its being tested. The reason for that is that the low pH and the high pH will change from the current composition into its regular form after five days. If someone drinks one glass of the low pH water, it will not harm them, and the high pH water is actually good for people to drink. HEI plans to market this proprietary technology to meet the existing needs in the agriculture and medical industries."

Clinical Applications for PAW

PAW has been made available to the author for his personal consumption. Clearly there is a need to enter into research which can explore and document the clinical benefits derived from both internal consumption of PAW and its topical application. For the present, the following represents a case report documenting the effects of consumption, cessation of consumption, and reintroduction of Plasma Activated Water (PAW) in one individual (the author).

Clinical History

The author has a long history of muskuloskeletal issues (fibromyalgia) many of which were caused by a series of both auto accidents and auto v. pedestrian accidents. Details of more recent episodes may be found here:

First Consumption of PAW

The first consumption of PAW (a total of 3.3 gallons) began in 03/04. The PAW water was consumed as part of a mixture of water, 50% PAW and 50% water created via the Pi Mag Optimizer system of Nikken that had been recommended by a family physician (for more information about Pi Mag water, please see http://office.5pillars.com/e-nikken/pimag/optimizer.htm). This combined water was consumed over an approximately three-week period ending on 03/28/03.

Initial Effects of PAW Consumption

Most noticeable was a recovery and return to a more “normal” mode of overall functioning. There was much more energy, a sense of greater health and wellness and an overall ability to increase exercise tolerance, activity level and intensity generally. With regard to muskuloskeletal complaints, the water consumption appeared to facilitate an improvement in motor functioning allowing first for the introduction of a walking exercise program. As time passed, there was a distinctly noticeable greater ease of walking. Longer periods of such walking exercise also became possible.

In early February 2004, still another car accident had occurred. This time the accident was one in which there was immediately noticeable pain and debilitation (especially on the right despite numbness from head to toe which was the result of the left pontine stroke that occurred in 11/03). There followed an emergency room evaluation and subsequent evaluation by a long-treating doctor that led to the diagnoses of “lumbar sprain/strain and cervical sprain/strain.” The recommendation was made for several months of soft tissue mobilization treatment, done first biweekly and later weekly. By 03/28/04, it was possible to report to the treating doctor that it appeared that a “status quo” had actually been reached. Thus the soft tissue mobilization treatment was proving very successful, especially following the introduction of PAW.

Another major effect, quite noticeable, was a loss of the appearance of any intermittent nasal stuffiness and/or throat phlegm that seemed to be related to an allergic response either to foods consumed or to the environment. While this symptom complex was not extreme, it was clearly noticeable at times. On some days, especially during early morning hours, there was a characteristic nasal stuffiness that might disappear as the day wore on. This had been true in spite of the consumption of multiple types of health supplements taken under a physician’s guidance.

Once the PAW had begun to be consumed, the “allergic” type reaction of nasal stuffiness and throat phlegm completely cleared up and never reappeared. There was a new sense of constant “pure breathing,” after this symptom complex completely disappeared. It was as if it was now possible for optimum bodily functioning. Any allergens or toxins to which the body might be exposed now were being “handled.”

Effects of Discontinuation of PAW Consumption

The overall “health height” which had been reached from the PAW consumption, was not completely apparent until the necessity arose to discontinue its use. Although the report of “status quo” had been made to the soft tissue treating doctor on 03/28/04, the supply of PAW had also run out on that same date. Efforts to acquire another supply of PAW were not immediately successful.

There then was an obvious gross deterioration in the overall level of functioning that became apparent almost immediately, but obviously over the next few days. Especially true was a return of musculoskeletal symptoms with a seemingly significant increase in muscle pain, stiffness, spasms, along with a general feeling of malaise.

This deterioration in functioning thereby highlighted just how high a “health height” had actually been reached before the discontinuation of PAW consumption. There was an apparent regression in physical condition, along with an increase in muskuloskeletal symptoms (headaches, neck pain, back pain including upper, middle and lower back), etc. This was so dramatic a contrast that it appeared that the symptoms experienced now seemed worse than those that had been occurring prior to the PAW consumption. More likely, the “contrast phenomenon” was simply great. The contrast with the deterioration that so quickly occurred without PAW was such that the return of symptoms may actually, in reality, have simply matched those being experienced before the positive effects of PAW were realized rather than their being subjectively perceived as “worse.”

In addition, there developed a feeling of “unwellness” that included the development of a low-grade fever on 03/29/03 (up to 100.6 degrees Fahrenheit by evening). 975 mg of Tylenol resulted in a significant sweat, as well as reduction in the fever. The latter, however, persisted into the next day, albeit at a lower level (99.0). Typically temperatures in the past have ranged around 97 degrees, rather than the so-called “normal” temperature of 98.6 degrees or such a low-grade fever.

During the day of 03/29/04, because of the degree of unwellness being experienced, there was motivation to see what availability could be arranged to acquire more PAW. It was then arranged that a personal trip to HEI Laboratory could be made on 03/30/04 where three more gallons of PAW were obtained.

Immediate Effect of the Reintroduction of PAW

After reintroducing the consumption of PAW (first two cupsful while at the HEI Lab) and later back to the usual 50% PAW and 50% Pi Mag, it was noticed that the low-grade fever (still 99 earlier in the evening) had later dropped to 98.7 (around 7:30 p.m.). Thus an immediate effect was noticed in the lessening of the low-grade fever that had been experienced over the prior two-day period. At 11 p.m., the temperature registered 97.9 degrees Fahrenheit. There has not been a return of the low-grade fever.

Additional Effects of the Reintroduction of PAW

By the latter part of the evening of 03/30/03, with regular consumption of the 50/50 mixture of Pi Mag water and PAW, a return of the easing of the musuloskeletal symptoms was noted. There was less stiffness, greater ease of movement and an easing of pain throughout the back. The headache pain also began to disappear.

The taxi driver assigned for the trip back from the HEI laboratory was unusually rough in his driving habits, and the jostling of the taxi, particularly on rolling out of the driveway on departure, was sufficient to cause back pain and spasms. Even the normal effects of driving can cause muscle-related discomfort in everyday experience for those suffering from fibromyalgia.

Upon arrival home after the effort made to acquire more PAW, it was necessary to have a meal. Afterwards, there was sufficient exhaustion that set in, requiring a nap. It was after awakening from the nap mid evening (7:15 p.m.) that the start of the diminishment of muskuloskeletal symptomatology was becoming obvious. Thus there was a simultaneous drop in the low-grade fever, with its eventual disappearance, and there began a return of the increased sense of well-being that had been achieved with PAW prior to the discontinuation of its use.

Upon awakening the next morning, I immediately noticed a significantly greater degree of comfort of movement, particularly in my head, neck and back. It was as if the addition of PAW to one’s diet was the equivalent of adding a high-quality “internal lubricant” which was able to permit greater ease of movement and significant reduction in pain, despite existing injuries.

With this improvement underway, I was able to travel the 2 miles to the local treating soft tissue doctor whose beneficial methods of treatment were part of the “rehabilitation crusade” typifying the response to muskuloskeletal injuries over many years (original auto accident in 1966). Thus it was possible to report to this doctor the reinstatement of PAW and the improvement already being noticed.

A call had been made to this doctor’s office for an extra treatment session because of the severity of the returned pain/discomfort being experienced without PAW. When the appointment was made on 03/29/04, there was no way to know that with the reintroduction of PAW on 03/30/04, that the recovery process would already have begun, and that there would be so much improvement by the time of the appointment on 03/31/04.

“Miracle" Water?

Obviously more observations will be made over time in the coming days/weeks as additional PAW is consumed. It is hard to believe that the simple drinking of PAW water can ease muskuloskeletal pain so quickly and so consistently as has been the case. While one might lean towards the thought that PAW is “Miracle” Water, in fact, the sound scientific basis for its origin is well documented from the scientific developmental work and the research findings of HEI.

The healing capabilities of PAW can now be further documented. Many different types of benefits and applications of PAW are being studied by the scientific research team at HEI. While visiting the HEI Laboratory in Van Nuys, California on 03/30/04, the question was raised as to whether PAW could introduce such obvious and immediate benefits for someone so ridden with muskuloskeletal injuries. The Chief Scientist, George Paskalov’s response was simply to smile and acknowledge that PAW could certainly be of great assistance to those suffering from muskuloskeletal injuries.

Biographical Info

Dr. Burton Danet has been on a “rehabilitation crusade” over a period of many years. Although the diagnosis of “fibromyalgia” was only formally confirmed during 2003 by the Medical Director of the Cedars-Sinai Fibromyalgia Pain and Treatment Program in Los Angeles, Stuart Silverman, M.D., it is likely that this same diagnosis was pertinent as a consequence of the multiple auto accidents and injuries that have been sustained. Treatment modalities have included traditional physical therapy, pool therapy at the Easter Seal Society in Ventura, CA, intensive soft tissue mobilization therapy in Los Angeles, exposure to infrared thermal total body therapy, various types of health supplements recommended by the family physician. None of the modalities have ever produced the immediate, obvious and continuous beneficial result (reduction in overall pain level and discomfort in living) that has been possible with PAW water. The superiority of the effects of consuming PAW is so considerable that it now appears that it would be of great interest to continue the personal consumption, without interruption, for life, if at all possible.
