Calabasas, CA (PRWEB) May 21, 2004 --- Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced recently that Raymond Aller, M.D., Director of Bio-terrorism Preparedness and Response in the Acute Communicable Disease Program of Los Angeles County Department of Health Services will speak at the upcoming 2004 PHIN Stakeholders Conference being held in Atlanta, GA, May 24 -27. Dr. Allers speech in Concurrent Session #12 on Thursday, May 27, from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. will discuss the Countys successful deployment of the Visual Confidential Morbidity Report (Visual CMR) Communicable Disease Tracking System built by Atlas and the County, and their efforts to continue to meet the Public Health Information Network standards established by the CDC.
Visual CMR has been in continuous operation by the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services Acute Communicable Disease Control Program (ACDC) for four years. ACDC worked with Atlas Public Health division to design, build and deploy the system. During its four years in operation, the Visual CMR system has reduced case resolution time frames by fifty to seventy percent, from thirty days to as little as one week. The system also has significantly improved the quality of disease reporting from healthcare providers within the County and enhanced the departments ability to respond to disease outbreaks.
ACDC is responsible for monitoring outbreaks of infectious disease, investigating disease incidents to determine the source of each outbreak and coordinating the public health response. Its jurisdiction is the countrys most populous county -- covering roughly 4,084 square miles with a population of over 10 million people. The County must be prepared to respond to the full range of potential infectious disease outbreaks including outbreaks caused by a bio-terrorist act.
The Visual CMR system offers a proven solution for community based disease incident tracking, case management and reporting. By reducing manual entry and facilitating standards based communication between healthcare providers and public health officials, the system enables agencies to respond to potential threats to public health rapidly and effectively. As the exclusive marketing representative for the Countys system, Atlas Public Health will be demonstrating Visual CMR along with the complete Public Health Information Network Suite of solutions it provides at the CDCs PHIN Conference.
