(PRWEB) May 22, 2004 -- Hitachi High-Technologies Backs a Winner
Hitachi High-Technologies is pleased to announce that the designer and manufacturer of its fingerprint sensor module has won first place in the third international Fingerprint Verification Competition (FVC 2004). Hitachi markets the Suprema range of fingerprint solutions, including the new Unifinger SFM1000-PR and SFM2000-PR fingerprint modules that are ideal for embedded system applications where biometric security is needed.
The competition is the worlds largest evaluation of fingerprint matching technologies, 110 participants registered and 68 entrants finally submitted algorithms. Four different fingerprint databases with 3200 fingerprint images were used in the performance evaluation. The Suprema algorithm came first showing the lowest error rate in the light category. The light category was aimed at algorithms conceived for light architectures used in commercial products, ideal for Supremas algorithm as it is optimised for low cost embedded solutions.
Malcolm Harland speaking for Hitachi says We are proud to be associated with this great achievement. Biometrics has many applications and this proof of being the best in the world will only add to confidence in the product at a time when security or both people and places is of such high consideration."
