On Friday, May 21, 2004 Dr. Gabriel Pearse, professor of English and Black Studies at Mercy College and Brooklyn College, will officially announce that he is running for congress in Brooklyns 11th Congressional District (East Flatbush, Crown Heights, Brownsville, Park Slope, a portion of East New York, Cobble Hill) in the September 14, 2004 Democratic Primaries.
The Announcement will be held at the elegant Brooklyn Bridge Marriott Hotel. The event will be co-chaired by Mr. Ron Diaz, Regional Vice President of Pre-Paid Legal Corp., Mr. Ben Dicostanzo, Branch Manager at Lending Solutions Corp., Bishop Cecil Riley, Pastor of Freedom Hall Church, Dr. Anthonio Langdon, President of Caribbean Transformation Resource Center, Mr. Phil Andrews Public Relations Director Black Business Circle, Mr. R. Eric Castro, Principal of Endeco International, Mr. Edgar Henry, President of Caribbean Vision Center, Ms. Lisa Washington, President of Black Business Circle, Ms. Hyacinth Harrison, President of West Indian Chamber of Commerce, and Professor Richard Greene, President of Crown Heights Youth Collective.
Entertainment will be provided by gospel singing superstar Hopeton Lewis, and singers Miriam Drakes, Jayedenne Williams, Jephte Mondesir and internationally renowned saxophonist Dave McLaughlin.
At this event Dr. Pearse, who is also President of the Not-for-Profit Urban Alliance Community Organization, will discuss his position on Education, Housing, Health, Jobs, and other critical issues facing the Central Brooklyn Community. He will also explain why he is the best qualified candidate to succeed the incumbent congressman, Major Owens, whom Dr. Pearse describes as a redundant congressman and a visionless politician.
