Parents and grandparents remember the days when they collected empty bottles and old newspapers to raise money for Scouts, clubs, and teams. Todays kids are far more high tech, so the latest boom in fundraising is collecting old cell phones.

Other groups have businesses lined up to collect phones for them. Realtors, construction companies, sales crews, and other businesses with many employees using cell phones regularly get new phones for their staff and turn in the old ones to non-profit groups. Some businesses are willing to put out boxes where the public can just drop off old phones.
