Texas Whiz-Kid Matures Into Entrepreneurial Computer Geek

Finally, Rus Bel is proud to be known as a computer geek, for he has just become a high-tech entrepreneur courtesy of Geeks On Call® -- the nations premier provider of on-site computer support. As the owner of a new Geeks' franchise, Bel provides a bevy of mobile computer services to the small businesses and residents of The Woodlands, Conroe, and other neighboring communities in the Houston suburbs.

Houston, TX (PRWEB) May 28, 2004 --- In the late 1970s -- when Star Wars was the latest craze and disco was nearing its demise -- personal computers were little more than novelties with limited functionality and hefty price tags. However, for 14 year-old Rus Bel, those first-generation consumer PCs opened a new world of excitement and exploration and inspired the young wunderkind to teach himself the fundamentals of advanced computer programming. Little did he know that this hobby eventually would lead to a thriving, lucrative career in the information-technology industry, and one day he would embrace the very label he once shunned: computer geek." Now Bel is proud to be known as a geek, for he has just become a high-tech entrepreneur courtesy of Geeks On Call® -- the nations premier provider of on-site computer support. As the owner of a new Geeks franchise, Bel provides a bevy of mobile computer services to the small businesses and residents of The Woodlands, Conroe, and other neighboring communities in the Houston suburbs.

When his family purchased its first personal computer in 1978, Rus Bel immediately discovered there was a shortage of qualified people in his hometown who could provide instruction or tutelage for his PC. Deciding to take advantage of his own sharp intellectual skills, Bel successfully taught himself how to use the new technology. Through a combination of manuals, guide books, and old-fashioned trial-and-error, he eventually mastered the BASIC programming language, which enabled him to create programs like calendars, flash cards, and other tools that enhanced his life and facilitated his scholastic achievement. After graduating from high school, Bel expanded his high-tech horizons by attending Central Texas College, which was the highest-rated junior college in the field of computers at that time.

Upon receiving his Associates Degree in Computer Science, Bel accepted an internship with a major software company. The internship was brief -- the company was so impressed with his expertise that they immediately hired him full time as a Junior Level Programmer. The experience eventually led to Bels acceptance of a higher-level programming job with a different company, during which time he wrote computer code for an agency of the federal government (the details of this are still classified). In the late 1980s he again switched tracks, this time garnering employment with a company known throughout America for its award-winning customer service. As a Senior Systems Engineer, Bel spearheaded numerous data-center relocations over the next twelve years. A chance conversation with a friend brought to Bels attention the recent growth of Geeks On Call®, which in turn led him down the path toward becoming an official Geek.

Geeks On Call® is the high-tech equivalent of a doctor who makes house calls. Too often small businesses and residential customers lose substantial time and money while waiting for their computer problems to be fixed by a large, impersonal retail store -- which often keeps the computer for a week or more and charges an arm and a leg! Refusing to tolerate this type of slow, unsatisfactory service, Geeks On Call® goes against the grain and brings help directly to the customers doorstep. Everything the Geeks technicians need to complete their tasks is nestled inside their sleek patriot-blue Chrysler PT Cruisers -- affectionately known as Geek Cruisers" -- which are emblazoned with the Geeks On Call® logo and toll-free phone number.

Launched in 1999, Geeks On Call® began its operations in Norfolk and Virginia Beach, VA -- where it experienced immediate success. Overwhelmed by the publics hunger for dependable computer support, the company realized the only way to satisfy its ballooning customer base would be to begin franchising in other areas. In early 2001 the first Geeks offspring was born, and since then nearly 170 franchises have been planted throughout the United States.

Geeks On Call® has found success with residential clients as well as businesses that simply cannot afford the enormous expense of hiring an IT staff. Now everyone has access to superior computer repairs, upgrades, troubleshooting, personalized training, networking and custom-built PCs -- without emptying their wallets.

Currently, Geeks On Call® offers service in the following states: Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. To schedule fast, on-site computer support, call 1-800-905-GEEK. For more information on the services provided by Geeks On Call®, log onto www.geeksoncall.com.
