KUA Customer Demand Soars to New Height

More electricity was used on the afternoon of May 26 than at any other time in the utility's 103-year history.

KISSIMMEE, FL (PRWEB) May 29, 2004 -- For the first time in over a year, customer demand for electricity across Kissimmee Utility Authority's service area set new record highs. More electricity was used on Wednesday afternoon than at any other time in KUA's 103-year history!

A new record of 295.4 megawatts (MW) was set at 4:35 pm on Wednesday, shattering the old mark of 286.1 MW set on January 24, 2003. The temperature at the time of the peak was 93 degrees.

A megawatt represents the amount of electricity required to serve approximately 650 homes.

Customers are typically using more power during this period of hot weather and higher than normal electric bills can be expected. Even with the increased demand, KUA has sufficient energy and capacity to continue providing safe and reliable electric service to its customers without interruption.

Continuing high temperatures in Florida could cause KUA customers to set another new demand record this week.

Founded in 1901, KUA is Florida's sixth largest community-owned utility providing electric, water, and telecommunication services to 170,000 residents in five Central Florida counties.
