Local Business Owner Peddles Commemorative Blankets" in Heat Wave
With daily temperatures this last week of May climbing past the 80-degree mark, why would Wanda Jenkins, owner of PreView Designs, bother selling blankets? These arent just any kind of blankets. These blankets, afghans or throws, as theyre often called, were designed to commemorate the dedication of the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC.
Fort Washington, MD (PRWEB) May 30, 2004 --- As the wife and daughter of military veterans, Jenkins has an appreciation for the contributions veterans have made throughout the years. For three years now, she has assisted her father in coordinating an annual retreat for Korean War veterans. Several years ago, she and her husband initiated what is now an annual Salute to Veterans at their local church, which other churches have since adopted. So when she found an afghan that commemorates the World War II Memorial, she was motivated to market it, even in the intense heat. Not just the heat of the weather, but also the heat surrounding the memorial, which some critics believe defaces the National Mall by putting the WWII Memorial right in between the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial.
I recall, as a child, visiting the vets in the soldiers 'old folks home. Many of them didnt have family who visited, or much to show for their lives. But they enjoyed telling their war stories. This keepsake throw is something people can give to the WWII veterans to let them know how much they are appreciated for their contribution to our countrys freedom."
Many festivities have been planned for Memorial Day Weekend 2004, and the weather promises to be a scorcher in Washington, DC, with possible thunderstorms. Even still, dont be surprised if you see a lady walking around, wrapped up in her WWII Memorial Commemorative blanket.
