(PRWEB) June 1, 2004 --On May 22nd, sixspace opened the hugely successful second solo exhibition "Railroad" by represented gallery artist Seonna Hong (Los Angeles). For "Railroad," Hong debuts fifteen new oil-on-canvas paintings that reflect a subtle, quiet, somber yet also joyous nature. A repeat of her first solo show "Princess", Hongs work continues to be in such high demand that the exhibition nearly sold out prior to the opening to collectors from Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, and Australia.
The new body of work by Seonna Hong in "Railroad" explores the duality of innocence (in the form of curious and contemplative little girls) and life (as depicted by fast-moving trains). Influenced by the recent construction of the Pasadena Metro near her home, these new paintings reflect a maturation of Hongs work while they similarly and simultaneously show the processes of growing up. The railroad" works well as a metaphor for life as her young girls are shown exploring new places, in-transit, and seen literally at the crossroads of the tracks. As a symbol of industry, advancement, and travel the train imagery in Railroad conveys the hurriedness of life and the need to get on board."
Seonna Hong is a working artist in both the fine art and animation communities. Her exhibitions routinely sell-out, making her one of the most sought-after artists in the country. Her upcoming solo exhibition at 5BE Gallery in New York solidifies her place in the contemporary art world. This year she was nominated for an Annie Award for her background work on My Life As a Teenage Robot, the newly acclaimed Nickelodeon show. Other animation projects have included doing background paintings for Gary Basemans Emmy Award Winning television show Teachers Pet and Powerpuff Girls: the Movie for Cartoon Network. Hong has been included in publications such as Lemonade Magazine, Portland Mercury (cover), Seattle Post Intelligencer, and Aphid Magazine (cover) as well as the books The Truth Show, Beatsville, and Sci-Fi Western.
