Weekend Powerboat Racing Festival for Whole Family Starts Friday

Port Huron, MI (PRWEB) June 11, 2004 -- Looking for something to do with the whole family, different than the norm? Try heading to the Blue Water Area this weekend for the 2004 Miller Lite® - Port Huron Offshore Gran Prix as powerboats from across the country converge on the town for a show of spectacular racing.

The event, part of the 2004 APBA Offshore GMC Pro Grade Series Tour, will jam three full days of testing, racing and events for the entire family, as the McMorran Place takes life and turns into Race Village.

There, million dollar race-boats boasting paint schemes that cost more than your yearly mortgage payment will be on display, amidst the hustle of equipment preparation for the Saturday -- Sunday competition days. McMorran Place will provide concessions, and a variety of vendors will be showcasing their products, event souvenirs and racing apparel.

Entrance to McMorran Place Race Village is FREE to the public.

Viewing of the actual offshore competition will be held at Lakeside Park with racing action on both days at 12:00 Noon and 2:00 P.M. daily, also FREE to the public. A Hanson Pro Music Beach Broadcast at the Park will be held with live, play-by-play commentary of the races as they occur.

A dedicated spectator vessel zone off the racecourse, which runs from Lakeside Park north to Keewahdin Road, means that boaters wanting a little more up close action will be able to anchor their boats and see the race-boats competing at speeds in excess of 130+ miles per hour.

A series of fan based racer parties are also being hosted.

On Friday night, a Rock The Racers Party will be held at Legendz Spirits & Entertainment off Garfield in the Colonial Woods Shopping Center beginning at 8:30 P.M. Live Entertainment will be provided by local favorites The Hit Men and adults over 21 can mingle with the racers and get autographs from the Extreme Vortec Team whose race-boat will be on display until 10:00 P.M.

Following the races on Saturday, a Victory Lane Celebration Party and Winners Circle will be held to honor those teams who garnish the checkered flag at Bridge Harbour Marina from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M with complimentary beverages and snacks.

Winning boats will be on display both in water and on land, and offers FREE ADMISSION to the public. Bridge Harbour Marina is located off Water Street at I-94, behind the Bob Evans.

At 8:30 P.M. its back to Legendz and Colonial Bowl for the APBA Offshore Celebrity Bowl-A-Thon, where fans can sign up to bowl against the racers, all to benefit the Blue Water Area Habitat for Humanity Partnership.

For $50 a five person team, or $10 per person to join a team at the event, fans get three full games of bowling against the most powerful teams on the water today. What they do on the alley is anybodys guess, but kids are invited, and its truly an event for the whole family, with prizes, raffles. Entry for the event begins on site at 8:30 P.M.

On the Legendz side, adults 21 & over can party the night away along with the teams who will be celebrating their advancement to Victory Lane.
