Reluctant Reader Becomes Childrens Author

Books by Max Elliot Anderson are compared to The Hardy Boys, Star Wars, Nancy Drew, modern day Tom Sawyer & Huck Finn, and Tom Swift. One has reported that these books are Christian Literature's answer to Harry Potter.

Max Elliot Anderson grew up as a reluctant reader. This was complicated by the fact that his father was a famous author. The issue was further compounded because many of his fathers books were written for children.

As a child, Id rather be out playing, or watching TV," Anderson said, not sitting in the house reading a book." He managed to make it through high school, and graduated from college with a degree in Psychology, but his interests continued toward the visual and not books. This lead to a career in film and video production. Ive produced, shot, or directed thousands of television commercials including over 500 national spots for True Value Hardware. Ive also been involved in the production of some of the most popular childrens Christian films of their time including Hobo and the Runaway, The Great Banana Pie Caper, The Mystery of Willoughby Castle, and several others."

About two and a half years ago, Mr. Anderson decided to look into some of the reasons for his lack of interest in reading. His findings lead him to begin writing Christian chapter adventure books for readers, 8 - 13, that he would have liked as a child. My books are highly visual, with lots of dialog and plenty of heart-pounding action. Early responses from children indicate that Im right on target. Reluctant and avid readers now devour each new title as it is released. Parents are also vocal in their appreciation for books that are reaching their children."

To date, Mr. Anderson has written 28 manuscripts for his audience. Four of these have been published: NEWSPAPER CAPER, TERROR AT WOLF LAKE, NORTH WOODS POACHERS, and MOUNTAIN CABIN MYSTERY. Four new titles are due for release in 2004 including, BIG RIG RUSTLERS, THE SECRET OF ABBOTTS CAVE, RECKLESS RUNAWAY, and LEGEND OF THE WHITE WOLF.

Readers and reviewers have likened Mr. Andersons books to The Hardy Boys, modern day Tom Sawyer & Huck Finn, Nancy Drew, Star Wars, and Tom Swift. It has also been said that these books are Christian literatures answer to Harry Potter.

Mr. Andersons books are distributed nationally to bookstores by Faith Works, to libraries by Baker & Taylor, and are available online on a number of sites.

When I first began writing, I decided that if I could help one reluctant reader to become a reader, it would be worth it. From the emails and letters I have already received, that goal has been reached many times over."
