, New Roommate Matching Site Offers Unique, Advanced Personality Based Profiles

Modeled after online dating and social networking sites, entrepreneurs John S. Shriber and Roman Zaks have reinvented the roommate matching industry with Roomster.

Dedicated to making the search for a roommate or a room rental more effective,, the new, online roommate matching site, has launched with exclusive features that focus on matching users based on personality.

According to its founder, John S. Shriber, Chairman and CEO, Roomster helps users learn more about their future roommates or tenants through advanced user profiles that are unlike those on typical roommate sites. Modeled after the profiles on online dating and social networking sites, Roomster goes beyond the typical roommate profile criteria by featuring additional user supplied content on their members, in particular, who they are, who they are looking for, their interests, and their favorite music, books, television shows and movies.    

Another unique offering, similar to Friendster, is the opportunity for friends to post testimonials that allow users even more insight into their potential roommates. Launched in November 2003 by Internet entrepreneur Shriber and his partner Roman Zaks, Roomster, a subscription based company, is the fastest growing roommate matching site on the Internet with over 30,000 users monthly in their database. Since its launch, Roomster is active in 50 states including California, New York, Massachusetts, Texas, Washington, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Oregon, Georgia, New Jersey, Maryland among others. Roomster has plans to launch in Canada within the next few months.

Profiles on Roomster are simple to read and visually oriented with large photos of users and/or their rooms for rent. In addition to the standard fields such as location, gender, age, sexual preference, and maximum rent, Roomster gives users the opportunity to tell a little more about themselves in their own words. Two large text boxes titled, "about me," and "I am looking for," allow users to divulge more information to give other users a better understanding of who they are and what they are looking for.    

Like Friendster, Roomster has keyword matching that allows users to search for members by clicking on words in the following categories; interests, favorite music, favorite books, favorite television shows and, favorite movies. Users can focus on the areas that are most important to them and find like-minded people that share their interests and daily habits. There are several subscription options that are moderately priced: 2 weeks at $9.95; 4 weeks at $14.95; and 8 weeks at $24.95. Renewal rates are $14.95 for 30 additional days for all package subscribers.

"Finding a roommate is a universal experience. At Roomster, we know that people do not connect solely on gender, age and location. It's their personalities that need to match on some level in order for them to be truly compatible," explains Shriber, a successful entrepreneur in the online relocation and lifestyle industry. In April 2004, Shriber will launch, a nationwide apartment renting site. Flatster will compliment Roomster by taking all the roommates without rooms and matching them with other roommates in order to insert them into new apartment rentals, through an apartment rental feed. With user supplied content from landlords, development and management companies, real estate brokers and individual owners, Flatster will deliver information on available apartments to pairs of roommates that have connected first on Roomster. is a service of Roomster Corp, a New York based start-up.
