(PRWEB) June 13, 2004 -- Trinitas Hospital has recently opened a new Sleep Disorders Center at the Williamson Street Campus. The new and expanded facility, which was created to meet the increased demand for sleep testing and diagnosis, is designed to diagnose and treat various sleep disorders, including sleep apnea, snoring, insomnia, excessive daytime sleepiness/fatigue, restless leg syndrome, narcolepsy, nocturnal seizures and abnormal nighttime behavior.

Getting a good nights sleep is an essential part of healthy living," says Vipin Garg, M.D., Director of the Sleep Disorders Center. But for millions of people who suffer from sleep disorders, getting enough rest can be difficult, if not impossible. Left untreated, these sleep disorders not only affect the quality of life, but can have harmful, even life-threatening effects on health, well-being and safety."

At the Center, diagnostic sleep studies are performed by registered polysomnographers and interpreted by physicians trained in Sleep Medicine. They can quickly diagnose any problem, and, working closely with each patients primary physician, provide expert treatment and follow-up. There is a panel of expert physicians comprising various sub-specialties for development of comprehensive care plans. The expanded facility is located at the Williamson Street campus, but not within the main hospital building, affording a more quiet, intimate setting. The private, comfortable testing is performed in home-like suites with soft designer sheets, pillows and a private shower", says Dr. Garg. All overnight sleep studies include a complimentary breakfast and free parking in the Trinitas Hospital parking garage."

Among the new features included in the expansion are a handicapped accessible room with private shower and oversized bed and lounge chair to accommodate individuals with special needs. There is also a room designed for older children and adolescents, where a parent/guardian can accompany them throughout their study. Because of the quieter" location of the facility, daytime wakefulness" studies can be performed as well as daytime sleep testing for nighttime shift workers.

All sleep study results are interpreted by the Sleep Disorders Specialist and discussed with the patient within a few days of their study and the referring physician is notified of the findings. Based on the results of the initial study, therapeutic studies and subsequent treatment, if necessary, are arranged by the Sleep Center personnel. Bilingual Professional staff are available to best serve the needs of the community. All major insurances are accepted as well as Medicare and Medicaid.
