What I'm Gonna Do On My Summer Vacation...

Sometimes, the greatest escape is immersing oneself in an act of creation...and having the pictures to show for it! A still life drawing class, led by award-winning artist Roxanne Bohana, will be offered at the new Lucky Gallery in Red Hook. The class will feature visits by local artists and a gallery exhibit when students complete their pieces.

(PRWEB) June 13, 2004 -- Just because you're all grown up, doesn't mean you can't have fun during your Summer vacation--even if you're stuck in the city. And just because you're all grown up doesn't mean Show and Tell isn't lots of fun--because we all know it is.

An opportunity for artists of all levels to expand their drawing skills, enhance their understanding of color, and create a unique still life that will be exhibited in one of the newest art galleries in Red Hook, is here.

Award-winning artist and instructor, Roxanne Bohana, praised for her superb portraiture, wonderful children's illustrations, and eye-popping, color saturated abstracts, has teamed with the LUCKY GALLERY in Red Hook to offer a still life drawing class using colored pencil.

" I was so pleased when the owners of Lucky Gallery selected my work for their upcoming show," said Ms Bohana. "As artists, we're always pleased when someone enjoys the work we do. That feeling extends to the inner artist in all of us!"

So, when Ms. Bohana visited the gallery and had a chance to review the works at Lucky Gallery's current "Beginner's Luck" show, she decided she'd ask Ed Roskowski and Hannah Brooks, Lucky's owners, to consider opening the space to offer a a unique art class.

"I liked the space, it was intimate, and filled with such beautiful examples of work," said Roxanne, "and I thought, what a wonderful opportunity it would be to teach an art class here..what better inspiration than to be surrounded by other artists' work while creating your own."

When Roxanne proposed this idea, Ed and Hannah offered to contact some of their local artists for visits to the class. "Why not?" said Hannah, "what better way to learn, while you're developing your own skills. Seeing and hearing how a variety of working artists work can be invaluable!"

The student exhibit, "a real gallery show!" is being planned by Ms Bohana at The Lucky Gallery.
"We're in the process of working out the details, and students will hear more about it in class...but, not to worry, there will be plenty of time to let friends and relations know about it" she explained.

And the cost for this "trip" with "pictures included?" "Well, it's got to be affordable," said Ms Bohana "or it's no fun at all!"

Classes will be held 6/24-7/30 on Thursday evenings 7-9pm at the Lucky Gallery, 176 Richards St. (corner of Wolcott) in Red Hook. Instruction begins June 24 and will run for 6 sessions through the end of July. The entire experience will cost 120.

Roxanne Bohana can be reached by sending an e-mail to lucky gallery@hotmail.com or calling 718-614-2612 for more details.
