High-Tech Community Resource Centers Bring Self-Sufficiency To Underserved Areas Across America

In an age where many are left behind by technology and progress, an ambitious new project promises to literally improve the quality of life to Americans in underserved communities by raising the skill levels, economic base, affordable housing, health care, youth and child development programs in these areas. The National Revitalizing Rural and Urban America Initiative will administer a multi-million dollar budget to build one thousand strategically placed, high-tech Community Resource Centers with leadership training and technical support across America. Its stated goal is to provide underserved communities with the infrastructure and maintenance of survival skills to become and remain self-sufficient in the 21st Century economy.

Athens, GA (PRWEB) June 13, 2004 --- Each 15,000 square foot center will be a dramatic, high-tech resource facility that will accommodate a wide variety of community needs, including:

 
  • Administration Offices -- Equipped with complete Information Technology frameworks, these offices will provide staffing, support and coordination for community projects run by local partners and organizations.

 
  • Family Health Centers -- Used as a conduit to provide Family Health services and Tele-medicine resources.

 
  • Credit Union -- Used as a catalyst for the rebirth of rural and urban areas by increasing the flow of market rate capital into minority and low-income markets, among others.

 
  • Kids Computer Learning Center -- Children in underserved areas will have access to E-Learning and basic computer literacy with 15 desktop computers and workstations.

 
  • Training Rooms -- Each state-of-the-art room will include a Smartboard" for interactive distance learning, video conferencing with 15 laptop computers, offering 50 to 60 various training programs per week.

 
  • Day Care Center -- Each center will serve primarily children aged 0-3, and will have complete facilities available for up to 70 children or based on the need of the community.

 
  • Public Space -- Four touch screen kiosk units, three 50" plasma screens that will allow visitors to access information on programs and opportunities.

 
  • Commercial Kitchen -- To prepare meals for the day care center, poor seniors meals-on-wheels program, and catering services for special events held within the center.

 
  • Community Hall -- Serving as a multi-purpose meeting place for business, private and community groups with audio/visual/digital Cinema capabilities for a variety of educational and entertainment content.

 
  • Small Business Incubator - To foster regional economic development by supporting entrepreneurs, small/disadvantaged businesses, and businesses expanding to the area by providing managerial & technical assistance, low office rental rates, and shared access to basic office services and equipment.

The National Revitalizing Rural and Urban America Initiative will work closely with local, regional and national organizations, local and national businesses, and appropriate governmental agencies to help people of all ages become and remain self-sufficient in our ever-changing economy.
