Lucid will introduce and demonstrate FrameWorksÂ? at The National Education Computing Conference (NECC) in New Orleans next week. FrameWorks gives school districts an easy to use peer-coaching and performance assessment system that has traditionally been paper-based. With FrameWorks, staff members and their coaches are able to complete district created assessment and coaching forms from any Web-enabled computer.

Lucid Data Corporation, an educational technology company, will introduce FrameWorks™ at The National Education Computing Conference (NECC) in New Orleans next week. FrameWorks is a tool to support teachers in self-assessment and their coaches and supervisors in providing specific feedback on performance. FrameWorks is a significant step toward Lucid’s vision of linking professional development and reflective practice to help teachers become more thoughtful practitioners and enhance their skill in the complex task of teaching.

FrameWorks, a component of Lucid’s PDExpress professional development management system, was developed in collaboration with Charlotte Danielson and based on her book: Enhancing Professional Practice: A Framework for Teaching (ASCD, 1996). Ms. Danielson is an internationally recognized educational consultant and the creator of the framework for teaching. According to Charlotte, “Lucid is a great company to partner with because of their vision, understanding, and technical capabilities in support of Education. I am particularly impressed with Lucid’s professional development management products and their success in meeting the needs of school districts nationwide. Linking professional development with reflective practice is of particular interest and importance to me.”

"FrameWorks gives school districts an easy to use information-gathering and analysis system that has traditionally been paper-based," said John Wills, Director of Marketing and Sales for Lucid. "With FrameWorks, staff members and their coaches are able to complete district created self-assessment and coaching forms from any Web-enabled computer.”

Promotes a Professional Dialogue Between Staff Members and Coaches

In addition to completing self-assessment and coaching forms, FrameWorks enables staff members and coaches to exchange email and pre- and post-assessment comments. Coaches and staff members are able to attach supporting documents and forms within FrameWorks. Because FrameWorks is a component of PDExpress, coaches have access to professional development records and are able to identify and suggest workshops, resources, and out of district activities to staff members they are coaching.

Create Framework Templates That Reflect State and District Standards

FrameWorks enables districts to create and publish online Framework assessment templates that support multiple versions of the Danielson Framework. For each Framework template, districts can create custom rubrics, provide detailed descriptions, offer supporting help text, and assign numeric values to rubrics.

School Administrators Share Their Thoughts

Dr. Lawrence Campbell, Director of Human Resources at West Carrollton School District, OH said, “We have been using Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for Teaching as the basis for a differentiated staff assessment model for more than four years. Lucid Data’s FrameWorks, an electronic version of Danielson’s Framework for Teaching, will help form our professional conversations about teaching by providing feedback about good practice. Ultimately, we will use Lucid’s FrameWorks to align our key educational processes and enable our staff and faculty to develop and utilize their full potential.”

"Our entire teacher assessment system was rewritten using the FrameWorks model”, said Paul Kreitl, Director of Technology at MSD Wayne Township Schools in Indianapolis, IN. “This is a great tool for the growth of our new and veteran teachers. It supports a positive dialogue between teacher and administrator. Teacher observations are used to gauge the effectiveness of professional development activities. FrameWorks will help in planning our professional development to assure that educational best practices are used with students."

FrameWorks will be available with the release of PDExpress 2005 scheduled for later this summer. FrameWorks requires PDExpress 2005 and is a separately purchased component. Pricing of PDExpress and FrameWorks is based on the number of full-time teachers employed by a district.
