Singapore (PRWEB) June 20, 2004 -- Scalable Systems Pte Ltd, a pioneering High Performance Computing (HPC) company based in Singapore has announced the release of Scalable Rocks V1.0.
Scalable Rocks is a complete cluster distribution built on Red Hat Enterprise Linux - an enterprise class and commercially supported Linux operating system. Based on NPACI Rocks developed by the Rocks Cluster Group at the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) and its contributors, Scalable Rocks extends Rocks with web-based cluster tools for both the cluster administrator and the end-user.
"High-performance computing and enterprise customers want a fully supported cluster software distribution that is reasonably priced. The Rocks team at SDSC is pleased that Scalable Systems has decided to release Scalable Rocks," said Dr Philip Papadopoulos, Program Director, Grid and Cluster Computing, SDSC. "The team at Scalable Systems and SDSC have been collaborating since 2001, and we are fully confident that they will be able to address the needs of users requiring commercial support for their clusters."
"Red Hat is pleased that Scalable Systems has signed up as the first Red Hat Ready partner in Singapore and is releasing Scalable Rocks based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux," said Gus Robertson, VP of South Asia Pacific Region, Red Hat, Inc. "This partnership will ensure that Scalable Systems' customers will be able to run their high performance computing and enterprise jobs on a fully supported enterprise class Linux operating system with the largest number of third-party HPC and enterprise software."
"Scalable Rocks was developed based on five years of experience building clusters for customers. Incorporating feedback from them as well as others in the HPC community, we are able to provide a robust and stable cluster operating system with a graphical console," said Laurence Liew, CTO, Scalable Systems. "We are appreciative and are encouraged by SDSC's support of our work and Red Hat Asia Pacific team's support for this partnership."
Scalable Systems has been behind several large HPC projects in Singapore and the region. These include the major supercomputing resources in the Supercomputing and Visualisation Centre of the National University of Singapore, the Singapore-MIT-Alliance and a large renderfarm for the MultiMedia Development Corporation in Malaysia, among others.
