National Comic headliner, Ventriloquist Russo Louis, will perform for patients, and staff at Our Lady Of Lourdes Hospital Auditorium, between 12:PM and 1:PM, on July 15th, in Lafayette Lousiana.
(PRWEB) June 22, 2004 -- Our Lady Of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette Louisiana will break the laughter barrier presenting world renowned Comic Ventriloquist Russo Louis, in its hospital auditorium for patients, and staff. Attendance is free, and all are welcome. Louis and his manikin American wooden partner, (Brooklyn Birch) will entertain between 12:PM and 1:PM. The performance will be broadcast as well live to 150 to 200 rooms in the hospital.
Russo Louis appears at the behest of Cajun comic and actor (The Big Easy) friend, Dave Petitjean. Russo is one of the top 50 comedians to appear on CBS' Ed Sullivan Show...with a career that's spanned four decades, the ventriloquist headliner has appeared on every major network, on the bill with countless superstars, performed for the president of the United States, and entertained U.S. troops around the world."
Louis' believes humor with prayer helps the healing process that humor can help patients get well sooner. Louis says this has been reported and documented by many therapists. People go through terrible trials, traveling down the paths of life; injury, exhaustion, depression and hopelessness, "I know, I have," he says.
"Prayer gives us hope, our sense of humor, a way to better health. It is OK to have some fun along the way. and it's good to help others feel good too. If people around you are laughing did you ever notice that it's hard to resist laughing yourself.
When I do jokes with my puppet for a crowd I am actually laughing at myself. The audience joins in and that's wonderful. That's what makes the laugh track on 'Every body Loves Raymond, Seinfeld, or Friends', such an important element. Who's Line Is It Anyway, is hilarious. Movies make us laugh, Shrek and Shrek2. Sunday cartoons give us a chuckle.
But, I believe you have to take time for laughter. just like you do for prayer. You've got to make it happen, and if you can, make it happen for others as well. The world turns the head around with all its bad news and you must make the effort to turn it back around or it will stay stuck in the bad stuff and that can undermine your health.
In my shows, I try for the simple smiles, then the chuckles, till it all starts to roll, to build, to explode into the belly laughs, lung expanders, high sighs, then the aftermath, the wonderful relaxation.
Joking about a problem is one way to get a little distance from it, sort of 'get out of the forest to see the trees' if you'll forgive the euphemism. The ventriloquist's puppet gives me, and so my audience, some distance from the issues, the problems, gives us more of a feeling of control which allows us to release our imagination and creativity.
As to Puppetry it's just another way of writing or sculpting, just another tool, an extension of the imagination. I think that's how laughter helps us to heal. It gives the body and mind a little distance, gets us out of the way, so to speak, so the doctors and the nurses can clear the way for the Lord to come in, so the healing process can begin."
