Students Learned More Than Basic Math; Electromath Proved to be The Correct Answer for a Basic Human Equation.
Thanks to a competitors request, this full-screen, animated, three-level, on-line educational tool got a new name but it is still in a class by itself. By changing the program name this school practiced what it teaches; using moral values is good sense, a concept which seems to have lost its appeal judging by the headlines lately. The students of G.L.A.D. have witnessed a bad situation turn to their advantage by choosing to improve the program they created rather than fight for the name of it.
Anna, TX (PRWEB) June 27, 2004 -- GLAD Private School recently dismissed an enticing opportunity to participate in a legal battle concerning the name of its on-line math program. Despite the dramatics of court and the possibility of winning a compensation, setting a good example had to be priority. Whether its math equations or character traits, when the problems are demonstrated correctly, students will do better on the test.
Receiving the 'cease and desist letter was very unsettling for the school administrators and the first instinct was to fight. Highly publicized cases set the stage for imagination and anger fueled the momentum. Regardless of whats right, the freedom to fight is a temptation not easily ignored. The privilege of our laws has been taken for granted, making a mockery of our system. Justice has been blind so many times it teaches that, the right to fight is a reason to fight, without respect for responsibility.
Teaching good moral values is just like teaching math, it requires demonstration, practice and repetition. This technique was incorporated into the math flash program because it works. Beginners get a visual image of the equations as they are illustrated by objects in level one. When the basic equations are understood, then the practice without visual aid is easier. Replacing the visual aid with verbal confirmation in level two, reinforces the memory. Level three allows students to master what has been learned with 'on the spot answers. Any subject can create anxiety if there is lack of understanding and practice. Standards must be set high for children to grow academically smart and to develop common sense. Doing the right thing may not be easy to accept at first, but given time it becomes a habit that will overcome fear and the natural reflex of retaliation.
Based on experience the choice was obvious, that the situation should be refused as a threat. After reasoning that this unique program deserved a distinctive name, the search began. Finding another perfect name didnt seem likely at first, but now, when the new name is searched on a browser the result pages are fewer than before and competitors are not there which could possibly distract a potential visitor. However, it is listed on the same results pages as competitors when the search is for common key words. Fortunately, the new name matches the sound effects associated with the animation which simplified the whole process. Rational thinking exposed some truths that lead to practical solutions and revealed opportunities.
