Nashville Area Recovery Alliance Announces Plans For RecoveryFest '04

Free Recovery Music Festival to be held Sept 11th at Hall of Fame Park in Nashville, TN

Nashville, TN (PRWEB) June 27, 2004 -- At a time when many people are thinking about summer vacation, the organizers of RecoveryFest are making plans for a downtown music festival for the fall. The Nashville Area Recovery Alliance (NARA) is presently hard at work planning a public celebration for a very private matter - recovery from alcoholism and addiction.

In addition to vendors, information booths and great food, RecoveryFest will offer an impressive array of local and national talent along with a full-tilt stage production. The free public event now its third year, will be held Sept 11, 2004 at the Hall of Fame Park in downtown Nashville, bringing together musicians, artisans, and volunteers from all fellowships and sectors of the Recovery population. Their purpose and goal is simple; to share hope with others and promote a clean and sober lifestyle. Some artists donate their time and play RecoveryFest because of their own personal experience while others perform in support of the cause. Last years' lineup included artists Steve Earle, Bob DiPiero, Warner Hodges, Danny Tate, and Danny Flowers, among others.

All kinds of addictions impact the music industry, according to Terri Dorsey, Program Director of NARA who states, Some of our performers will be there because they have seen friends and fellow musicians rescued from the addiction of drugs and alcohol. Theyve also seen how the freedom of Recovery can change lives, so theyre willing to donate their talent and energy to an effort like RecoveryFest."

The line-up for this years festival will be announced in July. Over 2500 attendees enjoyed RecoveryFest '03 and numbers are expected to be even greater this year.

The Nashville Area Recovery Alliance, a program at the Alcohol and Drug Council of Middle Tennessee, presents RecoveryFest as its major yearly event because, as Director Dorsey states, Some people think theyre never going to have fun again once theyve given up an addiction. RecoveryFest is one way to prove that is not true at all. RecoveryFest is really an opportunity for everyone to celebrate - - whether or not youre in recovery yourself, chances are, you know someone who is."

In addition to the annual festival, NARA offers on-going Tuesday night workshops given by people in recovery, for people in recovery, on topics that range from employment issues to relationships in recovery. Weve found that the best teachers for people in recovery are other recovering addicts and alcoholics," according to Dorsey. On any given Tuesday night, youll find the leaders of the recovery community; lawyers, writers, counselors - - people in recovery from many fellowships and many walks of life - - teaching and attending our workshops," she adds. All Tuesday night workshops are free and are held at the A & D Council at 2612 Westwood Drive from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.

RecoveryFest organizers need volunteers and vendors. For more information about RecoveryFest, or any of the workshops NARA offers, contact the NARA staff at (615)269-0029 x106 or e-mail lbell@adcmt.org.

NARA is a federal grant program, geared toward facilitating the development of positive life skills for the Nashville area recovery community. NARA defines its target population as people with a history of alcohol and/or drug problems who are in recovery, along with their family members, significant others, as well as their friends and allies.
