EmINENT Microsystems Announces Embedded Software Framework™ Support for the Atmel AVR® 8-Bit RISC Microcontroller

The Embedded Software FrameworkÂ? (ESF) is an Â?object-orientedÂ? suite of embedded software libraries that provides the state-of-the-art in real-time software development. EmINENT Microsystems Inc. today announced Embedded Software Framework™ support for the AVR® 8-Bit RISC family of processors from Atmel Corporation. The Embedded Software Framework™ software suite includes ESF RTOS™ a simple, powerful, and easily customizable, “object-oriented” real-time operating system, ESF Base™ an OS and platform independent data structure, algorithm and digital signal processing library, ESF TCP/IP™ a flexible, fast, compact, real-time implementation (e.g. no heap allocation, timeouts, etc.) of the standard TCP/IP protocols, ESF Web Server™ an embedded HTTP web server, and ESF SNMP™ a complete implementation of the standard SNMP protocols.

Software functions are organized into intuitively and conceptually familiar library hierarchies, so that you can quickly learn the available functions and find the components that you need.

The result is a powerful tool that complements almost any design and development environment and that helps to minimize the effort for application development and to maximize the reuse and cross project leveraging of engineering investments. Multi-threaded applications, including complex I/O and device control software, can be engineered to be portable and independent of a specific platform or operating system.

The AVR product portfolio consists of 58 devices. Atmel plans to introduce two new parts per month in 2004 covering a range of application specific areas such as USB, Wireless remote control and security. The USB controller family features the industry's only configurable low/high speed USB controller supporting 5 end points. The AVR wireless activities include a SmartRF processor, which combines the AVR with a high performance RF transmitter operating at 230-460 MHz.
