Kansas City, MO (PRWEB) June 29, 2004 -- Author Vincent Alexandria To Ride 560-Miles from Kansas City to Harpo Studios For Literary Charity.
On Monday, July 19, 2004, national best-selling mystery author Vincent Alexandria will embark on a 560-mile bicycle ride from Kansas City, Missouri to Chicagos Harpo Studios, home of the Oprah Winfrey Show, to help raise funds and awareness to support literacy and reading.
Alexandria is the founder/Chairman of The Brother 2 Brother Literary Symposium, a non-profit, tax-exempt organization, whose primary goal is to improve reading and literacy across the nation. Alexandria will ride 80 miles per day, in his effort to reach Chicago by July 30th, 2004. This trip will be grueling upon the body, spirit, and mind, but I believe in literacy and this one-of-a-kind organization. To bring awareness to the importance of reading and literacy Ill make this commitment," commented Alexandria. The organization is raising funds for its third annual Symposium to be held this November in New York City.
Held previously in Atlanta (2002) and Kansas City (2003), the Symposium will consist of a weekend of panel discussions featuring a host of authors and educators, workshops, and autographed copies of the authors books, all free to the community at large. This years event promises to be the biggest and best symposium yet. The organization has also been instrumental in the establishment of book clubs for young black men nationwide, with a long-term goal to reach 100 clubs across the country.
It is only fitting that Alexandrias 560-mile ride takes him to the doorstep of Harpo Studios. One of the most respected names in the literary world, Oprah Winfrey, whose book club, Oprahs Book Club" the largest book club in the world with over 300,000 members, is responsible for many published works becoming New York Times Bestsellers, with some selling over a million copies. Oprah's Book Club partners with the American Library Association (ALA), distributing thousands of free Book Club selections, donated by the publishers, to schools, public and community college libraries nationwide.
Tax-deductible donations can be made by visiting: www.vincentalexandria.com or http://www.theliteraryevent.com/symposium Lump-sum donations are also welcome, as well as pledges for each mile of Alexandrias ride.
Our goal is to raise $50,000.00 to continue the work of the Symposium, where the challenge of youth literacy is not only brought to light, but faced head-on with tangible solutions for children and their parents," notes Alexandria.
Vincent Alexandria is the author of: If Walls Could Talk," Postal Blues," Black Rain," and Poetry from the Bottom of My Heart." (We Must X-L Publishing Co.) He is also an actor, producer, director, composer, lyricist, vocalist, screenwriter, and musician.
