NM Internet Association Annual Industry Awards and New Board Presented at Annual Meeting

The New Mexico Internet Professionals Association (NMIPA), a non-partisan, statewide association of professionals with interests in the Internet and Internet-related activities, announces new board members and recipients of its annual industry awards.

Santa Fe, NM (PRWEB) June 29, 2004 -- Jane Hill, a Santa Fe based Internet Service Provider (ISP) business owner, has been elected the new chairperson of the New Mexico Internet Professionals Association (NMIPA).

Hill was chosen by fellow board members as chair after having served several terms on the board. She replaces Carroll Cagle, an Albuquerque-based telecommunications and Internet consultant at the state, regional and national levels, as chair of NMIPA.

Other officers elected by the board were Samsunshine Levy, CEO of NET MAN, Inc. of Santa Fe, a website developer, as vice chairman and Gerri Becker, of Xspedius in Albuquerque, an ISP, as secretary.

Prior to the officer elections by the board, NMIPA's statewide members re-elected one board members and elected two new members:

Ron Kreutzer of WineWeb.com, was re-elected to a two-year term while Mr. Levy, a NMIPA founding member and former board member/chairman, and Mrs. Becker were elected to the additional two-year terms. Carl Meuhlenweg, President of Lobo-Internet Services, Ltd. of Moriarity, an ISP, was chosen by the board for a vacant appointed board position having a term of one-year.

Voting for board members was concluded at the NMIPA's general membership meeting Thursday June 10 at Sadie's Restaurant in Albuquerque.

In addition, NMIPA recognized leaders of the Internet sector in New Mexico for special recognition with awards:

1) The New Mexico Council for Higher Education Computing and Communication Services, CHECS, received an Industry Recognition award "For bringing Internet Access to the Educational Community throughout New Mexico via its CHECSnet service" http://www.checs.net

2) Bruce C. Throne received an Industry Recognition award "For outstanding advocacy for New Mexico Internet businesses before the Public Regulation Commission."

Bruce is a Santa Fe anti-trust lawyer who has had a number of successes on behalf of CLECs and consumers against PNM and Qwest.

3) David Mittle received an Industry Recognition award "For outstanding representation of residential and small business interests and on-going consumer advocacy before the Public Regulation Commission"

David is a former assistant Attorney General, who worked on behalf of consumers for protection from telecommunication monopolies. He continues to attend events at the NM PRC, and his interest in regulation (or lack thereof) continues.
