KIDS FIRST!® Endorses I Wrote That! Media As Safe Worthwhile and Entertaining For Children

IWT Productions announces that the Coalition for Quality Childrens Media has endorsed I Wrote That!

LOS ANGELES, CA (PRWEB) June 30, 2004 --- IWT Productions is pleased to announce that the Coalition for Quality Childrens Media has endorsed I Wrote That!tm through its KIDS FIRST!® program. Titles that receive the KIDS FIRST!® certification in addition to being entertaining and worthwhile, must meet or exceed baseline criteria including: no gratuitous violence or sexual behavior; no physical or verbal abuse; no racial, gender, cultural or religious bias; no condescension toward children; no unsafe behavior.

We are delighted to have received this distinction for the titles we offer under our I Wrote That! program," said Sandy Watson, President of IWT Productions. It is our objective to deliver media for children that is worthwhile, safe, and entertaining and we are thrilled to be recognized by an organization that is supported by major media organizations like Disney, HBO, Warner Brothers, Paramount, and Twentieth Century Fox."

Our jury of adults and children were intrigued that the scripts are written by children and performed by trained actors. What a nifty idea," said Ranny Levy, President and Founder of the Coalition for Quality Childrens Media. The KIDS FIRST!® Jurors commented: I heard lots of laughter and one boy nearly fell out of his chair; Awesome music; It made me think about what I could write about; The humor doesn't come from being mean to others."

About The Coalition For Quality Childrens Media

The Coalition for Quality Children's Media (CQCM) is a national, not-for-profit organization founded in 1991. Because CQCM believes that media profoundly affects children, their mission is to teach children critical viewing skills which enable them to make their own good media choices, and, to increase the visibility and availability of quality children's programs. The Coalition is a voluntary collaboration comprising more than 10,000 media professionals, lobbyists, policymakers, child advocates, educators, parents and families nationwide. For more information about CQCM please visit www.cqcm.org or call 505-989-8076.

About Ranny Levy, Founder and President of CQCM

The invasive impact of violent and biased media on children became the impetus, in 1991, for Levy to create the Coalition for Quality Children's Media, dedicated to promoting and nurturing quality children's media as a vehicle for social change. A former educator, Levy designed an award-winning television series, Kidnetics, for WNIT-TV (a PBS affiliate), produced an ACE-nominated television show (Cable Magazine), and managed an independent film production and distribution company, OneWest Media, selling to national and international markets including PBS, the Discovery Channel, and Showtime.

For the Coalition, Levy developed its violence prevention program for the Women, Infants, and Children's Program in New Mexico, reaching 45,000 low income families monthly; its Junior Film Critics Club, training more than 5,000 teachers, librarians, child development specialists, and parents to teach children critical viewing skills; initiated a children's hospital donation project which serves more than 20 million children annually; and launched the touring KIDS FIRST!® Film, Video and DVD Festival, which traveled to 13 cities in 2002 and reached an audience of more than 25,000 children and parents.

About IWT Productions

IWT Productions is dedicated to producing and distributing safe childrens media that is both worthwhile and entertaining. Under the I Wrote That! brand, IWT has evolved a collection of media titles that are first and foremost wholesome, quick-witted, and above all a FUN form of entertainment for kids of all ages. The I Wrote That! series strives to foster creativity and literacy in all children. IWT takes the childs vision and actualizes it on screen. The I Wrote That! series helps kids unlock their imaginations, encourages them to color outside the lines, and inspires them to pick up a pencil instead of a video game.

The vision of I Wrote That! stems from co-founder Sandy Watsons first-hand experience of transforming childrens works to sketch comedy during her tenure with Griffins Tale Childrens Repertory Company in Chicago. Her extensive background in childrens theater and drama provided her with a unique insight into children as entertainment consumers. After experiencing the positive effect the performances had on the children, Ms. Watson decided to take this vision to a wider audience through DVD home distribution, and the I Wrote That! series was born. As president and CEO of Kerplink Productions, Ms. Watson produced GTTV, a childrens television pilot. Ms. Watson graduated from Northwestern University with a Bachelors Degree in Communications.
