Firefighter Says Personal Mission and Vision Helps Combat Fire

No one doubts the importance of a firefighters work, nor the high element of danger involved. Campbell realized the impact of having a sound mission statement and the importance of a vision statement for creating the future-wise firefighter.

Ojai, Ca (PRWEB) July 1, 2004 -- Firefighting is often defined as one of the top l0 most dangerous occupations. No one doubts the importance of a firefighters work, nor the high element of danger involved.

Doug Campbell, internationally known Fire Behavior Analyst, author and trainer of Campbell Prediction Systems, recognized the importance of building a mission statement for firefighters. I use my own personal mission statement to guide my decisions, and vision statement to determine future projects, whether as an expert witness in fire hazard analysis, public or in private fire safety awareness," says Campbell.

Using his firefighting experience, training and knowledge, Campbell defined the firefighters mission by listing strengths, shared values, knowledge of fires, past fire behavior patterns, avoidance of past mistakes and incorporating proven tactics.

Campbell realized the impact of having a sound mission statement and the importance of a vision statement for creating the future-wise firefighter, a firefighter who: identifies the fires weakness, minimizes all negative impacts on supervised firefighters, communicates the whole fire situation, maintains strong and well firefighters throughout the siege, uses fire wisdom, and maintains the avoidance of fire traps.

It was the process described and used in the recently published Mission and Vision Statements: Discover Your Path to a Successful Business Future that ignited Campbells true purpose and business vision for the future. Doug Campbell has used this same process to develop his own personal mission and vision statements. He highly recommends the use of this process for every firefighter - to be aware and know their mission and firefighters vision for the future.

"Any organization, large and small, can benefit from a properly crafted mission and vision statement. Individuals, especially, create a purpose driven life, resulting in a happier, more productive structure of their daily actions," said Mr. Don Midgett, Managing Partner of The GenesisGroup, and author of Mission and Vision Statements: Discover Your Path to a Successful Business Future. When Doug asked me for guidance, I was excited to work with him to provide a tool that would help firefighters all around the world and under the most intense of pressure situations."

"I use my personal vision statement as a part of my procedural life," Campbell says. A measure of success would have the well-prepared firefighter find what the fire is about to do; plan to deal with its potential; and save others from poorly devised tactical actions. A firefighters work and life is very mission and purpose driven. Living a purpose driven life is something anyone can do, and should, to get the most from their efforts and time.
