Active Desktop Calendar v4.2 new released - Customizable PIM on your desktop wallpaper

This fully customizable calendar features notes, tasks, alarms, and displays its data on your desktop through integration with existing wallpaper.

(PRWEB) July 4, 2004 -- Active Desktop Calendar v4.2 new released - Customizable PIM on your desktop wallpaper

This fully customizable calendar features notes, tasks, alarms, and displays its data on your desktop through integration with existing wallpaper. You can organize your data in layers and share them with other people on a local area network.

There are options for changing calendar icons, fonts and colors, marking weekdays of choice and marking dates with notes and/or alarms. You can have a text only version of the calendar and choose between displaying one, two or three months on the desktop.

Recurrence patterns are available for both notes and alarms. An alarm can be stand alone or attached to a note. If interactive desktop option is enabled, the program accepts direct clicks on dates, notes and tasks displayed on the desktop.

You can set each note to normal, private or invisible desktop view. Private notes are displayed as generic text reminder and invisible notes are not displayed at all. Printing calendar data is easy and includes an option to choose date range for printing notes.

Special desktop pictures option allows you to add some of your pictures to existing desktop background. Comma separated values .CSV format is supported for data export and import. Finally, Active Desktop Calendar comes with its own screensaver that displays desktop wallpaper with real time clock.

+++ Importing and exporting data in comma separated values (CSV) format

Many calendar programs support so called comma separated values (CSV) format for importing and exporting data. Active Desktop Calendar is no different, but when it comes to importing it requires that a CSV file is structured in a certain expected way.

In practice that means that a CSV file has to have the leading row with data field names and the order of fields has to be the same as the one created by Active Desktop Calendar when exporting to CSV. Here is a single note example:

"Subject", "Start Date", "Start Time", "Description", "End Date", "End Time", "All day event" "Meeting in Detroit", "26-07-04", "00:00:01", "Meeting in Detroit", "26-07-04", "23:59:59", "true"

To import data from a CSV file:
Right click on the program's icon in the system tray and choose Layers.
Click Import data from a file, select CSV file with data exported from Outlook and click Open.
Choose the target layer and click Finish. If it happens that Finish button is greyed out in then either the file has no data at all or its structure is not good and the program can not read data from it.
To export data to a CSV file:

Right click on the program's icon in the system tray and choose Layers.
Select a layer (fur multiple layers keep Ctrl pressed while making selection) and click Export layer(s) data.
Adjust export data interval if necessary.
Choose comma separated values (CSV) as the exporting format, click Create Export File.

Select the target folder, type in some file name and click Save.
Notes:

When importing, for target layer we recommend you to go with "Import as new layer" option because that way you will have greater control over imported data. If you import data into an existing layer then you will only be able to remove them manually.

Dates in CSV files to import have to be written in the same format as in an exported file on the same computer because date format depends on the regional settings. That means if you export to CSV on a computer that has US regional settings and try to import it on a computer that has German regional settings the import will not succeed.
