Brain Gym® Conference: Physical Movement Activates Learning Potential
The International Brain Gym® conference July 15-18 is open to all who want to learn about how movement activates learning potential. These techniques are helpful for anyone with learning disabilities, ADD/ADHD, developmental delay, and other blocks to full learning. You can attend one day, or all four days of this event, which is at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Educators, parents, counselors, occupational therapists, and anyone interested in learning will come away with tools they can use right away, and inspiration on how to use them.
(PRWEB) July 4, 2004 -- What if you could do a few simple physical movements and be able to read, write, and listen more easily? What if doing these movements over time made a lasting improvement in how you think, focus, and learn?
This is the work of Brain Gym® International: teaching parents, educators, therapists, and others how to activate the brains potential simply and easily, through movement.
The nonprofit foundation Brain Gym® International holds its annual international conference July 15-18 at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and offers courses on the subject preceding and following the conference.
Brain Gym founder Dr. Paul Dennison, renowned author Dr. Carla Hannaford, and Brain Gym experts and consultants from around the world will gather to discuss new research regarding movement techniques used in schools, businesses, and healthcare settings. They will share expertise on ways that Brain Gym techniques can improve physical coordination and artistic and creative expression, and will also address issues of ADD/ADHD and developmental delay.
This conference is open to the public. Special emphasis has been placed on developing introductory-level sessions appropriate for anyone interested in learning about this process.
A special three-hour Introduction to Brain Gym® workshop is offered preceding the conference on the afternoon of July 14. Participants will learn the basics of Brain Gym and how to apply them easily, in their own lives and to support the learning of students, children, family, and friends.
Movement is the door to learning," says Paul Dennison, a learning and reading specialist in Ventura, California. Dr. Dennison and his wife, collaborator, and coauthor, Gail Dennison, developed Brain Gym from his twenty-five years of clinical research with children and adults with learning disabilities such as dyslexia. They found that specific simple physical movements were the key to activating the potential of the brain, even to the point of overcoming chronic blocks in reading, writing, and behavior.
Dr. Dennison will be speaking on his current research on Thursday, July 15, at 7:00 pm.
Information about the conference program, pre- and post-conference courses, and registration can be found on the Brain Gym® International Web site at www.braingym.org, or call (800) 356-2109.
Among the US population, 15-20 percent needlessly suffer the effects of not being able to read, write, and communicate effectively in school and in business because of learning difficulties. For more than twenty years, Brain Gym has helped thousands of children and adults around the world to easily overcome the challenges of learning disabilities.
The use of Brain Gym improves reading ability (and test scores) and improves overall brain function in people of all ages. Brain Gym is used widely in German and Australian schools and is part of the official teacher training program in South Africa. Therapists in Romania and Poland use Brain Gym to help repair the developmental damage done to war orphans and disaster victims, and programs in Hawaii offer senior citizens the tools to enhance mental alertness.
