Please Don't Call Forrest Tales - The Secret of the Labyrinth a Christian Alternative to Harry Potter

Though some writers may be vying for the distinction of having their new series known as the Christian alternative to Harry Potter, CJ Lewis is frowning at the idea.

Puyallup, WA (PRWEB) July 7, 2004 -- Though some writers may be vying for the distinction of having their new series known as the Christian alternative to Harry Potter, CJ Lewis is frowning at the idea.

"Communities of faith can be very critical of a work. When an author tries to publicize their work as the Christian alternative to Harry Potter, they look for certain characteristics. They look for a character that symbolizes a Christ-like figure, and they look for direct scriptural quotations or references. If the work does not contain those points of reference, the Christian community becomes disappointed and begins to look elsewhere."

Though this book series was designed to utilize the fantasy genre to provide some real and lasting values in each of the installments, CJ Lewis asks that people wait until the end of the series before making erroneous comparisons to Harry Potter or to categorize this work as strictly faith-driven. "The story is meant for all groups-secular and faith-based," CJ notes. "People of all ages and faiths seem to be drawn to the characters and the storyline." In fact, a common thread in the initial reviews is that the reader has a hard time putting the book down once begun. Adults are finishing it in one day and writing CJ Lewis for clues as to what happens in the next book!

Two years ago, CJ Lewis was performing a military tour of duty when she heard a news report that disturbed her. "The psychologist reported that the reason people were flocking to see movies with witches, wizards, and hobbits, was because they were searching for spirituality. Her first thought was - how sad. How sad that rather than visiting their nearest church, synagogue or temple, people were going to these fantasy movies to find answers." That news broadcast changed CJ Lewis forever. "I remember thinking, wouldnt it be great if a writer could use the fantasy genre to fashion a story that had some real and lasting spiritual value as well?" It seems to be working.
