Three local youth softball teams qualify for the PONY Girls National Fast Pitch Softball Tournament in Texas.
Redlands Baseball/Softball for Youth is preparing to send three softball teams to Harlingen, Texas to compete for the national title. The qualifying tournament was held in Redlands over the July 4th weekend.
(PRWEB) July 7, 2004 -- Although Redlands Baseball/Softball for Youth's softball program is young in age, just five years old, they are quickly becoming a power house on the National scene. Over the July 4th weekend, five RBY teams competed against 29 other teams from across Southern California for berths in the PONY Girls National Fast Pitch Softball Tournament held in Texas. Teams between the ages of 8-14 came from as far as Stockton and Seal Beach to compete in Redlands during the four day tournament.
Two of the three teams qualified as runners-up in their divisions, Redlands 12&U Red and Redlands 14&U Red. Teams from Nuevo and Palm Desert took home the championship banners. Redlands' third team (14&U Blue) earned their berth after Nuevo declined on making the trip to Texas.
The National Tournament held in Harlingen, Texas is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, July 28, 2004 and run through August 1, 2004. This tournament is PONY Softball's equivalent to the Little League World Series. Last year, Redlands sent just one team, 10&U, which competed very well, finishing just shy of the National title.
