Osceola Energy Demand Hits New Record
Hot and humid weather in Central Florida on July 6 sent energy demand soaring to a new record peak for Kissimmee Utility Authority.
KISSIMMEE, FL (PRWEB) July 9, 2004 -- Hot and humid weather in Central Florida on July 6 sent energy demand soaring to a new record peak for Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA).
On Tuesday, KUA customers used 298.7 megawatts (MW) at 5:05 pm, eclipsing the former mark of 296.8 MW set on June 25. The temperature at the time of the peak was 94 degrees.
KUA offers the following energy-saving tips that require little or no expense and can help to reduce summertime energy costs:
| | - Set the thermostat on the highest comfortable setting. Raising the temperature just 2 degrees can reduce cooling costs by as much as 5 percent.
- Close blinds, shades or drapes during the hottest part of the day to block the sun's heat.
- Remember that window air conditioning units generally are not designed to cool more than one room.
- Clean or replace window unit or central air conditioning system filters monthly. Dirty filters cause air conditioners to work harder and use more energy.

Founded in 1901, KUA is Florida's sixth largest community-owned utility providing electric, water, and telecommunication services to 170,000 residents in five Central Florida counties.
