Lodi, WI (PRWEB) July 11, 2004 --- What happens when you take a grief-stricken widower and a cautious divorcee and tumble them together in a tangled heap with a big furry behemoth of a dog? Thats exactly what Jake and Jenna are about to discover in Butterfly Wings, set in rural south central Florida. Through laughter and tears, frustrations and high hopes, Jake and Jenna must each figure out how to deal with their newfound desire for the other while overcoming their internal struggles and fears brought to the fore by the happenings in their pasts.
Jenna Kincaid, the owner of a fledgling orchid growing business, has led a celibate life since her divorce one year ago. Jake Corbin, a successful childrens book writer with his career on hold, has been celibate and in a state of apathy for over two years since his four-year-old daughter, Lizzy, was killed in an auto accident just days before her birthday. His alcoholic wife also died in the accident. When Jake and Jenna collide while chasing his huge but lovable dog, Buster, the physical head-to-toe contact they make during their tumble on the ground wakes up their hormones with a vengeance and preludes an irresistible sexual attraction that binds the couple together despite other forces driving them apart.
The attraction, which Jake intends to follow up on, hits a major stumbling block when he first lays eyes on Jennas four-year-old daughter, Carlee, an instant torturous reminder of his departed daughter.
Jenna, too, is struggling with awakened hormones that seem determined to make up for lost time. The attraction she feels for Jake is immediate, consuming, and out of control. But she has two things to consider: one is Carlees fear of men, brought on by her exs treatment of Carlee before the divorce, and the other is Jakes obvious aversion to her daughter. So Jenna resolves, despite the irrational attraction she feels for Jake, to keep him out of her life, afraid his aversion will make life unpleasant for Carlee whos had too much unpleasantness in her young life.
Upon return from a business trip, Jenna follows Carlee to her butterfly garden to meet her new pet-a caterpillar shes named Willy. Jenna promises Carlee, who is an exceptional child (a Mozart of gardening) that she can have a coming out" party for Willy when it leaves its chrysalis as a butterfly.
One day, Jenna learns the truth about Jakes background from her hairdresser; she now understands why he feels such pain when hes around Carlee and wants to avoid her. She believes his traumatic loss and deep grief make their romance even more hopeless, sure to expose her daughter to more trauma as Jake deals with his grief.
Carlee has also become very attached to a book Jenna bought her, Wendy and the Butterfly Queen, which is one of the books in Jakes Wendy book series. She frequently sits in her butterfly garden reading" the pictures to Buster and watching her caterpillar, Willy.
The story concludes with an event, an orchid show. Jenna has a winner and has promised Carlee she could name the plant. (Names for First Class Certificate orchids are listed in the registry and seeds cultivated from that plant are sold with that name all over the world.) The little girl has planned for months to name the orchid Carlees Beauty" if it won an FCC, but when the clerk asks for the name, Carlee hesitates, looks at Jake, and then names it Princess Lizzy."
Jake is touched and drops to his knee to hug her. And while hes on his knee, he pulls a ring from his jacket pocket and proposes to Jenna.
