ABC4All Creates Action Plan for the Epidemic of Obesity and its Health-Related Crisis in Society

INTRODUCTION AND STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM One need only put a term such as "obesity health crisis" into any search engine on the internet to view information that details the magnitude of the obesity crisis with its associated ills that is affecting society in communities everywhere, both in USA and abroad. To counter this epidemic, it is necessary to create a serious course of action that will make a difference for the lives of "children of all ages and sizes" everywhere.

(PRWEB) July 11, 2004 -- TWO EXAMPLES ILLUSTRATING THE PROBLEM
As one example, such a search in Google produced 235,000 references.

By removing the "s" in crisis, the results field narrowed to 287 references.

However, for purposes of this release, ONLY the first two references were needed:

(1) Proceedings-The Childhood Obesity Epidemic: Overview, Research, Best Practices, Co-sponsored by: University of New Hampshire Continuing Education, Endowment for Health, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Presented March 21, 2003 at the Foundation for Seacoast Health's Community Campus, Portsmouth, NH: http://www.endowmentforhealth.org/_docs/16.pdf

Keynote Address: Childhood Obesity: It Takes a Family by Dr. Barbara J. Moore, President and CEO of Shape Up America (http://shapeupamerica.org):

"This session discussed the prevalence of obesity and inactivity nationally and in the state of New Hampshire, and provided an evidence-based perspective on the causes, treatment and prevention of obesity. The session considered parents/caregivers as role models and guides for healthy eating and exercise and the role of the family in the prevention and treatment of pediatric obesity."

(2) Partners for a Healthier Community: Working to improve the quality of life in Fall River, Somerset, Swansea & Westport, Massachusetts: http://www.gfrpartners.com/healthycityaction-h.htm

"While the percentage of persons who are 20% over their ideal weight in Fall River is similar to the state and national averages, overweight and obesity remain significant health challenges due to their association with increased rates of diabetes and heart disease, rates of which are significantly higher in Fall River and Bristol County. This is part of an obesity crisis in Massachusetts schools and a national crisis in childhood obesity."

These two examples serve as a microcosm of what the obesity epidemic is all about. A more detailed examination of these websites alone produced a plethora of vital information very representative of this epidemic reaching global proportions.

CONCLUSION FROM THE TWO EXAMPLES
The only conclusion possible from these examples in New Hampshire and Massachusetts (as representatives of the obesity problem which has both national and global implications) is that a course of action is necessary to confront the health crisis that already is out of control and claiming the health of so many of our children, teens and adult members of society.

ABC4ALL LAUNCH PROPOSAL
A Better Community For All (ABC4All) has created a proposal serving as the focus of its launch in July 2004: A COOPERATIVE VENTURE: BRINGING HEALTHY NUTRITION INTO SCHOOLS NATIONWIDE (and internationally with plans in development for countries such as Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines and more...): http://abc4all.net/launch.htm

The combined efforts of:
--Natural Ovens Bakery (Paul/Barbara Stitt, CEO/President): http://naturalovens.com,

--people involved with the film, "Super Size Me," which so poignantly and dramatically poses the problem of unthinking unhealthful living often resulting in obesity and associated illnesses (diabetes, heart disease, liver disease, etc.), Morgan Spurlock, et al.: http://supersizeme.com,

--Nutrition and Kids (NAK), with its dynamic and brilliantly conceived CD-Rom Game at once teaching children and their families good nutrition habits and offering a "healthy" FUNdraiser for schools and nonprofits,
"Adventures in Nutrition," Dr. Kim Gebrosky, Founder: http://www.nutritionandkids.net/10982/,

--The Giving Card, Donald Stump, President, the only fundraising program to have received endorsement by the Vatican: http://thegivingcard.com,

--Huck-Fin Environmental Education, Dave Gray, President, offering a model program for youngsters everywhere: http://www.huck-fin.com and

--A Better Community For All (ABC4All), Burton Danet, Ph.D., Founder, with the mission of "Maximizing Charitable Contributions on the Internet:" http://ABC4All.net

together form the creation of the following proposed joint program:

HELPING SCHOOLS/CHARITIES BECOME SELF-FUNDED WHILE PROMOTING HEALTHY EATING AND BRINGING GOOD NUTRITION TO SCHOOLS AND TO CHILDREN OF ALL SIZES AND AGES IN THE USA AND BEYOND:
http://ABC4All.net/launch.htm

10TH ANNUAL NUTRITION SEMINAR BY NATURAL OVENS BAKERY
The proposed participants have an unusual opportunity forthcoming in early August 2004. Natural Ovens Bakery is hosting its 10th Annual Nutrition Seminar: http://www.naturalovens.com/Better_Health/Schools/index.html

The dramatic, poignant Natural Ovens 14-minute video, "The Impact of Fresh, Healthy Food on Learning and Behavior 2004," depicts "A Miracle in Wisconsin," the transformation of the Appleton Central Alternative High School (http://www.aasd.k12.wi.us/aca/), literally eliminating all behavioral problems in the school just by changing the nutrition program. PLAN OF ACTION
Therefore the focus of this ABC4All Proposal and plan of action, with anticipated participation in the upcoming Nutrition Seminar, is to raise funds and bring the Natural Ovens Bakery Nutrition Program into schools throughout the USA and beyond (we already have a campaign launched in Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines).

SUMMARY
This dynamic, combined participation of the parties offers an unprecedented and systematic means to approach the health crisis which has reached global epidemic proportions, to include:

Natural Ovens Video, "The Impact of Fresh, Healthy Food on Learning and Behavior 2004:" http://live.palosverdes.com/ramgen/abc4all/abc4all.rm

The film, "SuperSize Me," including the film's creators and distributors:
http://supersizeme.com,

The brilliantly conceived CD-ROM Game that teaches children 6-16 and their families good nutrition habits and offers "healthy" FUNdraising for schools/nonprofits, "Adventures in Eating" of Nutrition and Kids:
http://www.nutritionandkids.net/10982/,

The model of Huck-Fin Environmental Education: http://huck-fin.com and

"The Giving Card," the only program of its kind already to be endorsed by the Vatican: "The need has never been greater. Schools, charities, churches, the homeless and the sick really need what we can do, together. The Giving Card is the difference -- one person at a time, one purchase at a time. It's up to you."

CONCLUSION
This dynamic opportunity for joint collaboration includes a deliberate method to raise funds for schools everywhere. Thus it becomes possible to create a special concerted effort, utilizing ALL the above elements to raise desperately needed funds throughout the USA and beyond for schools and nonprofits, all the while combating the obesity epidemic and its associated diseases (diabetes, heart disease, etc.) that is so rampant in society and causing a health crisis everywhere.

Support for this effort is being received from many health care professionals, many of whom have been referenced in the film, "Super Size Me." Such support serves to validate that the execution of this proposal will make a difference in the lives of children, teens and adults everywhere.
