St. Louis to Host 15th Annual National Poetry Slam: 70 Teams, 6 days, 1 Champion

ST. LOUIS, MO (PRWEB) July 14, 2004 -- The poetic explosion known as the 2004 National Poetry Slam is coming to St. Louis, August 3rd -- 8th. The annual six day poetry festival will feature over 350 poets from 70 major cities slugging-it-out poetically for the title of National Slam Champions and $5000 in prize money. www.poetryslam.com
Last year the title of National Poetry Slam 2004 Indie Champion was taken by San Jose poet Mike McGee. Team Los Angeles took the title National Poetry Slam Champions 2004 at the Navy Pier Stage in Chicago in front of a crowd of 2,000 elated spectators.
The National Poetry Slam is now in its 15th year, but first began in 1990. The event has been hosted in recent years by Chicago (2003), Minneapolis (2002), Seattle (2001), and Providence (2000). This years 15th annual event is produced by national non-profit Poetry Slam Inc. and local St. Louis group Word In Motion. 15,000 people are expected to attend the event.
