Leela Goa gets Imperial Mark

The Leela Goa attains Imperial Mark for highest levels of luxury, becoming first hotel in India to gain the award.

(PRWEB) July 19, 2004 -- THE Leela Goa has been awarded `The Imperial Mark' for excellence in the field of hospitality by the 300-year-old Imperial Mark Commission.

According to a statement from the hotel, the Leela joins a select list of organisations including the BBC, CNN, Rolex, Nestle and Omega of Switzerland, which have won the recognition previously. Among the other hotels to enjoy the honour are the Dorchester in London, The Carlyle in New York and the Bellagio in Las Vegas.

Hotels are rated for several parameters such as the quality of accommodation, performance of staff, attention to detail and all-round facilities provided by the property, in a rigorous selection process for the award, the statement said.

The Imperial Mark was originally a Royal Warrant, but is today governed by the Imperial Mark Commission, an independent body funded by the International Charter (ICharter). The ICharter is one of the leading `Best Practice' organisations in the world and has certified companies such as Sony and the Bank of England.

The statement, quoting Imperial Mark spokesperson, Mr Alex Holzman, said: "The Leela will be re-evaluated on occasions taking into consideration local competitors and improvements in the global hotel market. If it is found that a local competitor offers better standards of service, then the Leela may have its Mark revoked."

The Chairman of the Leela Group of Hotels, Capt C.P. Krishnan Nair, said the reward was a recognition of the highest traditions of Indian hospitality, famous the world over.
