HearthBeats Celebrates National Ice Cream Day Sunday July 18th, 2004!

Special Events Commemorate Centennial of Ice Cream Cone

ST. LOUIS, MO (PRWEB) July 15, 2004 -- The ice cream cone, once a Saint Louis claim to fame as one of many food inventions of the 1904 Worlds Fair, it turns out, may not have actually been invented at the fair! However, historians agree, it was certainly popularized there making this year, in essence, 100th Birthday of the Ice Cream Cone!"

HearthBeats Vintage Kitchen Wares, a retailer of nostalgic collectibles from the hearth stove of yesteryear to the kitchen of today, will celebrate the centennial of the ice cream cone this July during National Ice Cream Month. Throughout the month, the store will feature Ice Cream related merchandise displays and presentations of historical and culinary information regarding Ice Cream including modern twists on old time favorite recipes to accommodate vegan, lactose intolerant, low-carb and other dietetic concerns.

July was designated as National Ice Cream Month by President Ronald Reagan in 1984. He also declared the third Sunday of the month as National Ice Cream Day. In the proclamation, President Reagan called for all people of the United States to observe these events with "appropriate ceremonies and activities."

On National Ice Cream Day, Sunday, July 18th, from 11:00AM to 5:00PM, HearthBeats will feature activities for kids of all ages including a coloring contest and ice cream making demonstrations. Author Pamela Vaccaro will speak and sign copies of her book, "Beyond the Ice Cream Cone: The Whole Scoop on Food at the 1904 World's Fair" from 12:30PM to 2:00PM. Plus, look for a special appearance by Popsicle the Clown! Admission is FREE. Ice cream provided by Mangrove Cafe and Ice Cream Parlor. All proceeds from ice cream sales benefit Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital.

HearthBeats was established in the summer of 2003 by Jennifer L. Sweeney. HearthBeats is located in South St. Louis City at 2001 Cherokee Street, in the heart of Cherokee Antique Row.
