TTPCom Launches EDGE Wireless Module

Enabling high-speed cellular capabilities to be easily added to a wide range of products

Cambridge, UK (PRWEB) July 16, 2004 -- TTPCom Ltd, the worlds leading independent supplier of digital wireless technology, today launches the ITM420 quad-band EDGE module. The 47mm x 35mm x 3.3mm module is based on TTPComs world leading EDGE technology and is suitable for embedding into a range of products, including Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), laptops, wireless desk phones and various machine to machine (M2M) applications. The module is easily configurable using the developer kit available from TTPCom, enabling manufacturers or resellers of electronic equipment to rapidly prototype and develop innovative services and applications.

Initially a phenomenon in North America, interest in EDGE has grown globally with operators in Europe beginning to role out EDGE networks and services¹. To support this growing market trend the ITM420 module meets all regulatory approval requirements throughout North America and Europe including GCF, PTCRB, FCC and R&TTE. The ITM420 module provides all of the functionality required by network operators including quad-band operation (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz), EDGE class 10 and support for HR, FR, EFR and AMR speech codecs. The module also includes hardware support for USB 2.0 full speed, Bluetooth and GPS.

The global market for wireless modules is set to grow rapidly over the next three years with between 100 million and 160 million M2M connections expected (Gartner, 2003). Many sectors and vertical markets can benefit from the global coverage and data rates provided by EDGE and GPRS, including retail, security and logistics. The ability to send and receive data from remote assets opens up new business opportunities, increases efficiency and enables companies to react quickly to changes in their market.
