Wander off the beaten track...
Ten years into democracy, South Africa’s rainbow people may be looking for new alternatives to the “July in Durban” and “December in the Cape” holidays. Now is the time for South Africans start exploring their own multi-facetted country and discover the hidden gems of tourism that foreign visitors often enjoy, but many South Africans don’t even know exist.
(PRWEB) July 17, 2004 -- A visit to www.accommodate.co.za is an Authentic Cultural Experience, opening up an entire world of new holiday possibilities, with a unique twist: all the listings are jewels tucked away in rural areas and townships in South Africa. Visitors can enjoy a surprisingly luxurious stay or meal, or experience township or rural life and food the way the locals do.
A comprehensive listing of restaurants, accommodations and tours, ordered by province or township, makes it possible to plan a uniquely South African holiday or outing, incorporating many undiscovered places. Dates and times, as well as special offers are detailed on the relevant pages.
Three pictures, a description and prices accompany each listing and bookings can be made online. For some restaurants, the menu is posted on the website, so the less adventurous can view the choices before making a booking.
The website provides a platform for these small enterprises to showcase their facilities to South Africans and to the world. It has successfully carved a niche for itself in a country where tourism is one of the most important sectors.
The World Cup 2010 will bring an unprecedented number of tourists to South Africa, many of them keen to experience this very unique side of South African culture.
Listing on the site is extremely affordable and flexible, ensuring that even the smallest and hidden places in the rural areas are included. The Accommodate website further promotes local talent by showcasing their handmade arts and crafts to the global arena. This much-needed channel for budding tourism entrepreneurs is a worth a look when planning your next getaway.
Accommodate.co.za is owned by Locomotion Cargo cc and is an online destination marketing portal focused on community-based tourism across townships and rural villages in South Africa. The company subscribes to the guidelines of Responsible Tourism, which is, among other issues, a commitment to minimise negative environmental, social and cultural impacts and provides more enjoyable experiences for tourists through meaningful connections with local people.
The driving force behind this unique concept is Muzi Mohale, who studied financial management at the Benoni Technical College, before working as an accounts clerk and later accepting a position at a media publishing company. In 2002 Muzi's love of travel led him to sign up for a course run by the Sunday Times called "My B&B”. Lacking the capital to establish a youth hostel in Soweto, Muzi did some research and discovered that township-based tourism businesses were not being catered for online. From a fusion of his love of travel and a fascination with the Internet, the Accommodate online travel portal was created.
