BAE SYSTEMS Standardizes on I-Logix' Statemate® System Design Environment for Development of Eurofighter Typhoon

I-Logix' Model-Driven Development Environment Provides Common Communication Platform, Validates Designs Up-front and Significantly Reduces Development Time at BAE SYSTEMS

Andover, MA (PRWEB) July 16, 2004 --- I-Logix, a leading provider of system design and software development solutions, today announced that BAE SYSTEMS will use I-Logix' Statemate product and consulting services for development of the Eurofighter Typhoon. Standardizing on I-Logix' Model-Driven Development (MDD) environment, BAE will significantly reduce development time and costs by enabling project teams to develop complex designs with confidence that errors or failures are rectified early, as well as increasing communication between partners and suppliers. The selection of I-Logix' Statemate for this massive project once again reinforces I-Logix leadership in providing Model-Driven Development solutions to the Aerospace Industry.

BAE SYSTEMS will utilize I-Logix' Model-Driven Development process for the future development of the Eurofighter Typhoon systems. The Eurofighter Typhoon is a highly agile, single-seat fighter, swing-role weapon system, developed in co-operation between four European countries, under production on a work-share basis by EADS, Alenia Aeronautica and BAE SYSTEMS. BAE SYSTEMS selected Statemate, after extensive evaluation of leading modeling tools, for its ease-of-use and powerful simulation capabilities. Statemate Model-Driven Development provides BAE SYSTEMS with an executable model, which acts as a "common language", removing both ambiguity and misinterpretation while improving communication within BAE SYSTEMS, their partners and suppliers. MDD will replace the static design tools originally selected for requirements specification and design, thus enabling an iterative development environment conducive to future component re-use. Implementing Statemate ensures BAE SYSTEMS will benefit from time and cost savings, while adopting an industry standard toolset that is supportable and maintainable moving forward.

"By moving to the I-Logix' Model-Driven Development environment, we expect to be able to work in a concurrent engineering manner, identifying the majority of faults with the requirements and design very early in the lifecycle," said Steve Wheatley, BAE SYSTEMS Enhanced Process & Toolset LPS Group Leader. "In addition, Model-Driven Development will allow regression testing for identification of potential design faults, providing early qualification of design components. The net result is that Statemate will allow the project teams to develop complex designs with confidence that the majority of errors or failures can be discovered and rectified early, resulting in a significant decrease in cost and time."

"We are thrilled that BAE SYSTEMS has selected I-Logix' Model-Driven Development products and consulting services for this project," said Neeraj Chandra, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Development. "This is further endorsement of the importance Model-Driven Development plays within the Aerospace Industry. I-Logix continually strives to provide the industry leading solution for iterative development, enabling up front testing and error identification, while improving overall project communication and productivity. I-Logix, with Aerospace market leading position, looks forward to further strengthening its longstanding and strategic relationship with BAE SYSTEMS."

About Statemate
Statemate is a graphical design, simulation, and prototyping tool for the rapid development of complex embedded systems. It enables engineers to graphically capture their system requirements, specifications and designs using a combination of the Unified Modeling Language (UML)TM and traditional functional design notations. The graphical models captured in Statemate are simulated on the host computer allowing errors in the requirements and specifications to be discovered early in the process when they are inexpensive to fix. Statemate automatically generates documentation, prototype code, and test vectors, and enables corporate re-use of key systems components.
