Renowned for its program quality and timely significance, this year the Meaning Conference will focus on the important theme of Transforming Loss, Suffering, & Death Through Meaning, Hope, & Faith". The four-day conference will be held at the Empire Landmark Hotel, Robson St., Vancouver, July 22nd to 25th, 2004.
It will feature more than 100 speakers and workshop leaders from different countries to present the latest developments in grief counselling, and the role of meaning and spirituality in healing.
Therese Rando, PhD., an internationally renowned authority and media resource expert in dying, death, loss, and trauma will deliver a keynote address on Treating Traumatic Bereavement" Her lecture will examine the cutting edge developments surrounding intervention in traumatic bereavement.
Dan P. McAdams, PhD (Northwestern University) is the 1989 winner of the Henry A. Murray Award from the American Psychological Association for his work on personality and the study of lives. He is the author of over 125 articles and 12 books. Dr. McAdams will deliver a keynote address on The Redemptive Self".
Meaning Conference is known for its international and interdisciplinary emphasis. Chi Chieh-Fang, PhD and Wu Hui-min, PhD from Taiwan will speak on the role of Meaning and Spirituality in Death and Life Education, which has experienced phenomenon growth at all levels of public education in Taiwan. The Rev. Koken Otani from Japan, will lecture on the Buddhist Perspective on Life, Death and Beyond. George Ellis, PhD from South Africa will speak on Suffering and Joy; he is the 2004 winner of the prestigious Templeton Prize on Religion.
Dr. Paul T. P. Wong, Conference Chair and President of the International Network on Personal Meaning, points out that the Conference is open to anyone interested in the positive psychology of growing stronger through suffering.
