SAN DIEGO, CA (PRWEB) July 19, 2004 -- Interactive Design Systems (IDS) today introduced Bridge Designer II (BD2) version 3.05 that features Enhanced Composite Section capability. BD2 is a well-regarded industry-standard package for design and analysis of Pre- and Post-Tensioned Concrete Segmental Bridges and Cable-Stayed Bridges. With this release, IDS introduces a more refined matrix solution to address differential creep and shrinkage stress redistribution in composite sections.
BRIDGE DESIGNER II is a versatile software package that greatly increases a Civil Engineers ability to Analyze and Design Concrete Segmental Bridges BD2 uses basic matrix structural analysis formulation, combined with time-dependent material properties, to carry out a Time Simulation of a structure under construction. During this process, all stress conditions are checked at every construction step and in service. The Enhanced Composite Section Capability that is new in BD2 v3.05 is directly applicable to pre-cast/pre-stressed concrete bridges using continuous spliced girders or Bulb-Tees. Because of the age difference in slab and girders due to the chosen construction sequence, these structures often exhibit specific behavior due to stress redistributions in composite state -- known as differential" creep and shrinkage. BD2 is an appropriate tool to evaluate time-dependent behavior of concrete structures since it is build upon a time-dependent stiffness solution and provides a flexible environment for construction simulation. In addition, Version 3.05 now provides a better solution for creep and shrinkage in composite structures built in stages, incorporating the concept of self-equilibrating stresses while assuming the composite sections remain in a plane due to full shear transfer at the connection girder-slab. BD2 Version 3.05 also provides accurate stress combinations in the composite sections under live loads (LRFD -- HL93) and non-linear thermal gradients applied to the composite sections.
BD2 v3.05 is shipping and available directly from IDS and through select Value-Added Resellers. IDS is currently expanding its sales channels, and is actively seeking qualified VAR and Distributor Partners worldwide.
