Texas Builders Commission to hold public hearings on adoption of extremely limited warranties and standards.
The Texas Residential Construction Commission, recently created in 2003, will hold public hearings across Texas to gather comments on the approval of the extremely limited warranty and performance standards for new home construction in Texas.
(PRWEB) July 18, 2004 -- The Texas Residential Construction Commission, recently created in 2003, will hold public hearings across Texas to gather comments on the approval of the extremely limited warranty and performance standards proposed for new home construction in Texas. These standards will define minimal building standards and acceptable warranty protection for new home construction.
The standards were drafted with heavy input from the homebuilding industry and without any input from consumer groups, therefore it should come as no surprise that they are extremely limited in protection for the consumer. "The strawman standards proposed by the Commission is a disaster and will require extensive research and rewrite to provide even minimal protection for the consumer." states John Cobarruvias, President of Homeowners Against Deficient Dwellings, Texas.
"When a standard devotes 4 pages to defects in vinyl flooring and only half a page to serious foundation damage, it is clear these standards should be rejected and rewritten."
The hearings will begin Aug 3 in Houston, and will continue across the state. A schedule can be found at www.trcc.state.tx.us. A copy of the proposed standards can also be found on the site. Homeowners are encouraged to attend and to contact HADD for further information.
