ISAA UK Starts Activism Campaign To Clean Up UK TV Programming

UK size acceptance organization responds to discriminating television programming

(PRWEB) July 19, 2004 -- ISAA UK Starts Activism Campaign To Clean Up UK TV Programming

There is a tremendous amount of fat-bashing and unhealthy weight loss-focused television programming in the United Kingdom. This presents two problems which the International Size Acceptance Association's United Kingdom branch (ISAA UK) would like to address:

1. Size and weight-based discrimination is wrong. It is hate-based discrimination and must be recognised as such. Everyone is deserving of
a basic level of respect, regardless of their size, shape or weight.

2. The weight loss that is focused on and praised is not healthy and it is often brought about through shaming the individual. ISAA UK believes
everyone should become as fit as possible for their size and that everyone should learn how to make healthy food choices. Simply put, weight loss for the sake of averting criticism highlights the very discrimination we are trying to bring into focus.

ISAA UK is recommending that the public to contact their favourite networks and urge them to stop airing fat-bashing shows. It is ISAA UK's
hope that input from the public will influence the television programming to reduce these hateful and harmful programmes. ISAA UK is
providing contact information for the main television networks (BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5) on their website at:
