Virtuoso set to perform red violin chaconne from film soundtrack on legendary red violin" for global broadcast: Offers rare interview on mysterious 1720 Stradivarius
Celebrated violinist performs music from Red Violin film soundtrack on legendary 1720 "Red" Mendelssohn Stradivarius(the authentic red violin) for global radio audience.
LOS ANGELES, CA (PRWEB) July 21, 2004 -- ELIZABETH PITCAIRN, said to be one of the nations most important rising soloists has agreed to disclose some of the compelling details of how she acquired one of the worlds most coveted instruments at age 16: The 1720 Red" Mendelssohn Stradivarius, a legendary violin believed to have inspired the 1999 Academy Award film The Red Violin." Pitcairns July 22 radio interview and highly anticipated performance of John Coriglianos haunting Chaconne from the The Red Violin" film-score will be broadcast LIVE from Northeastern Ohios WCLV (104.9 FM) at 8:00 P.M. EST and simulcast worldwide on the Internet at www.WCLV.com. at 5:00 P.M. PDT.
Since Pitcairn gave the Southern California premier of the Chaconne to exceptional notices in 2000 with the California Philharmonic, she has championed Coriglianos passionate work, performing it frequently to sold-out concert halls nationally. Meeting Corigliano recently was a dream come true" for the young violinist who calls the Chaconne a beautifully written gift to the violin repertoire," adding this is a piece that will be beloved by future generations to come."
Pitcairn performed her first concerto with orchestra at age 14. In 1995 she won a major competition to solo with the Philadelphia Orchestra, and has since played the masterpieces of the violin repertoire for audiences around the world. Pivotal solo performances include the Brahms Double Concerto with her illustrious colleagues Yehuda Gilad and Ronald Leonard, and the Mozart Sinfonia Concertante with premier violist, Donald McInnes.
As to the enduring mystery and perhaps unquenchable public appetite to hear the famed crimson violin crafted by Antonio Stradavari in his golden period," and which once belonged to an heir of the visionary composer, Felix Mendelssohn, Pitcairn remains reverent of the violin she terms her partner" and prefers to save discussion of its extraordinary history for performances such as the Chaconne which bring the violins full power to bear. The interview, hosted by WCLVs Bill OConnell live from Ohios Encore School For Strings, will touch upon the details that led to Pitcairns ownership of the violin after a heated bidding-war and related media frenzy at Christies of London in 1990.
Pitcairn will also discuss her new CD featuring Fantasies by Bruch and Sarasate with the Sofia Philharmonic, conducted by Maxim Eshkenazy.
