Accelation Releases Graphical User Interface Designer for OpenVMS Database Applications
Accelation Software, Inc. has announced OPSsuite, a graphical user interface design software suite for developing screen-based database applications on OpenVMS.

OPSsuite is used for developing screen-based database applications on OpenVMS. HP-FMS or EasyEntry users can now upgrade to a graphical application without a complete rewrite of the application, and HP-DECforms users can convert and develop cross platform applications for enterprise use.
OPSsuite is a complete user interface management system (UIMS), providing applications with not only the look and feel of a graphical user interface, but also a robust set of dialog management and validation functions to control the user interface at application execution time.
Developers can create user interfaces into database applications faster with OPSsuite because the screen designer software that creates "portable libraries" that can be used on any computing platform. OPSsuite's screen development language can be used on any computing platform to provide a consistent user interface across all computing platforms. This is accomplished by using a platform-independent Form Definition Language (FDL) that adapts the visual interface to each platform.
OPSsuite provides a powerful run-time engine that includes data validation, computation, and database access. Users today are connected to RMS, SAS, Oracle as well as other database applications. In addition, OPSsuite integrates well with external applications. For example, OPSsuite can call programs written in Visual Basic and C, just to name a few. OPSsuite can also be called from within complex external programs to provide access to a high-level user interface development tool.
All applications developed using OPSsuite are portable to all HP platforms. This minimizes the cost to migrate from legacy systems to the newest Itanium platforms, and practically eliminates retraining for users and developers, plus it maintains user interface consistency throughout migration life cycles. This provides upgrade paths for companies using HP-DECforms, HP-FMS, or EasyEntry.
OPSsuite is available for the graphical operating environments Microsoft Windows, Motif, and the X Window System (also called 'X' or 'X11'). OPSsuite is available for use on OpenVMS, Microsoft Windows; in testing are UNIX, Solaris, and Linux. It is also available for handheld devices running Palm-OS and soon Microsoft's Pocket PC environment.
As an example of the graphical ability of OPSsuite, the run-time application can capture JPEG files or voice recordings from devices such as PDAs and cell phones, embed them within application records, and transmit that information to anywhere on the network.
