Liberal Artistic Liberties by Moses Fragela
Moses Fragela Puerto Rican artist first show in New York showcases his artistic mastery of paint and canvas.
LIBERAL ARTISTIC LIBERTIES By Moses Fragela showing at Atelier Art New York, Hells Kitchen Gallery is a series of 15 paintings by this young Puerto Rican artist which this critic finds intriguing in a "naive" way.
Mr. Fragela's hand technique of "whipping" his paint in a "frothy" pattern adds depth and perspective to his very realistic vision of his subjects. Observing his painting, VERONICA, one done many years before, I am moved by the realism of the piece a young womans upper body in a house dress with bobwire strung across her face and gripping at her body is moving yet widly disturbing. As a subject matter one can see the pain across the face of this woman with the wild abandon of the wire registering a calming peace. Another interesting painting ABSTRACT VISION UNKNOWN is a collage of colour overlapping and interlocking in shapes large and small so abstract it draws bewilderment called . To OBSESIVE FLIGHT a majestic painting of abstract realism of colors looking like birds in flight with fire in their wings and tails that reminds one of the "phoenix" the mythical greek bird of ancient times. This exhibit is young and magnificently beautiful. You can see in it the launching of a "signature" style by this artist. You can't ask for much more of paintings. George Urbane, Art Critic.
