The Gathering: An Alliance of Elders, Healers and Wisdomkeepers
Elders and healers from around the world will gather in Big Bear, CA to share ceremony and teachings, address issues in their communities and work toward conflict resolution.
Big Bear, CA (PRWEB) July 24, 2004 -- Journey to the Heart, a Los Angeles based 501(c)(3) non-profit is proud to announce their fifth annual The Gathering: An Alliance of Elders, Healers and Wisdomkeepers. The event will be held for the third year at Alpine Meadows Camps in Big Bear, California. The event will center around the question of how one may serve the ecology of the planet within their commmunity and across borders.
Healers and elders from around the world will gather together to share ceremony, healing traditions and to create a sacred space in which a true cross-cultural exchange can begin. The gathering is based on the ancient tradition of council where all voices are equal. It is a mini united nations but from a spiritual standpoint.
Invited presenters will be coming from Zimbabwe, Mongolia, England, the Caribbean, Ecuador, Bolivia, New Zealand, Sweden, China, Kenya, Botswana, South Africa, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru, Australia, the Caribbean, Puerto Rico, Belize, the Congo and several Native American and Canadian tribes. More will be announced in the coming weeks.
A group of San Bushmen from Bostwana will be traveling to the Gathering as part of a larger journey to alert the public in the United States of their forced relocation by their government to make way for diamond concessions. Amnesty International has taken this action very seriously and is working with the Bushmen to help them fight this human rights violation in court. The case goes to court in July. These healers are for the most part still living traditionally within their communities and some will be coming to the United States for the first time. Each has made a significant contribution to their people whether it is an AIDS clinic in South Africa, a community farm in Zimbabwe, a foundation to preserve the native plants in Ecuador or as a voice for those who have none in Botswana and New Zealand. Many are dealing with the ever increasing struggle between living a traditional lifestyle and the difficulties of coping in a world that is growing faster than it's resources. They are the keepers of the ancient wisdom and sacred teachings and medicine. Journey to the Heart endeavours to preserve these voices so they will not be lost.
