WPC Vegas Showdown - The Next Challenge for Women and Poker

Womens Poker club is pleased to host its inaugral major tournament in Las Vegas.

(PRWEB) July 25, 2004 -- The growth rate of women entering poker has increased dramatically over the past year, due to the heightened interest in poker through television coverage, and the growth of tournament poker. The Womens Poker Club is pleased to announce its inaugural WPC Showdown Tournament to be held September 9 -- 11 inclusive, at Binions Horseshoe in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Womens Poker Club was formed to encourage more women to enter the poker playing field by providing them with a friendly and less threatening environment to improve their skills. The club boasts over 700 members to date.

Many men seem to feel that women are easy targets at the poker table, our WPC tournaments have proven tougher competition than most mixed events I have ever participated in. Women are outstanding contenders in this sport." Said Maryann Morrison, President of the Womens Poker Club.
Royal Vegas Poker, the exclusive sponsor of this event, will be holding satellite and super satellite events where women will have a chance to win a free trip to the WPC Vegas Showdown. The online tournaments, available at RoyalVegasPoker.com are open to any and all female poker players.

It will be an exhilarating three days, with optional poker classes and social events built into the tournament agenda. For some of the women, the WPC Vegas Showdown will be their first major brick and mortar tournament. The members know each other from playing online and sharing strategy in our forum. The WPC Vegas Showdown will give them a chance to meet and compete face to face. This is the next step in encouraging more women to be immersed in poker and leveling the playing field."
The main event will be held on Saturday, September 11th, a No Limit Texas Holdem Tournament with a buy-in of $100+$25. The prize pool is estimated at over $10,000. Two secondary tournaments will be run simultaneously on Friday, September 10th. A 7-card Stud Hi Limit and Omaha Hi Lo Pot Limit with a buy-in of $60+$15.

Cat Hulbert, a well-known poker player and womens poker instructor from California, will conduct optional poker classes before the main event. Her classes are limited to 9 players and are conducted in the poker room around the table, so participants can play as they learn to hone their skills.

Two guest hosts arranged by Royal Vegas Poker, will meet the participants at the event: Lou Krieger, author of Holdem Excellence," and Poker for Dummies," and Barbara Enright, who has three WSOP gold bracelets to her credit, is a WPC member, and is the first woman poker player ever to make final table at the World Series of Poker main event. Adds Morrison; This is an exciting and challenging time for women and poker."
