Singapore (PRWEB) July 28, 2004
SingaporeÂs Changi International Airport Services (CIAS) has implemented a new Unisys Check-In Assistant solution at the Changi International Airport. With the new system in place, the CIAS can significantly reduce training and overall costs as well as deploy check-in staff more efficiently. This new installations benefits passengers, who can check in more efficiently and swiftly  especially during especially during peak travel periods.
The Check-In Assistant solution is currently deployed in the airline Departure Control Systems (DCS) of six airlines: KLM, Garuda, China Airlines, Finnair, Alitalia, and Emirates Airlines.
Unisys Check-In Assistant is a software tool that provides a Common Language Facility (CLF) that is integrated into airlines DCS host systems served by CIAS. The Check-In Assistant allows various airline DCS host systems to be accessed in an efficient and seamless way via the Common Language Graphic User Interface, therefore complementing CIAS current open technology environment at Changi International Airport. With the Check-In Assistant technology, CIAS will now also be able to better meet the needs of new airlines that must quickly connect their systems in order to begin operations.
ÂUnisys Check-In Assistant technology has significantly reduced staff training time and overall check-in process for the airlines we serve out of Changi International Airport, said Mr. See Seng Wan, Vice President, Ground & Cargo Services, CIAS. ÂIt is extremely important that the passenger check-in process be as efficient as possible, and Unisys has helped us achieve increased efficiencies, making the overall traveler experience here a very pleasant one, added Mr See.
During the first quarter of 2004, Unisys led a successful cutover to the handling of Emirates Airlines check-in processes with the new system, which follows the five host DCS systems that Unisys and CIAS already put into production in late 2003. The six airlines use the Unisys Check-In Assistant, which is installed on Common User Terminal Equipment (CUTE) in the airport.
This enables the airlines to share the equipment and technology costs. This is the first time that Unisys has deployed passenger processing solutions for use by multiple international airlines on Windows NT-based CUTE. Currently, Unisys customers use Check-In Assistant to front-end more than 15 DCS systems at more than 25 airports around the world.
ÂThe Unisys Check-In Assistant is aimed at helping airports to improve their service standards and quality. We are extremely pleased with the wide acceptance of the software solution in major international airports around the world, said Scott Whyman, Vice President and General Manager of Unisys Asia-South. ÂThis underscores UnisysÂs position as a leading technology services provider and consultant for the air transport industryÂ, he added.
In line with the priorities set by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the Check-In Assistant helps airlines to simplify processes. Check-In Assistant is part of the companyÂs Airport Passenger Processing Solutions (APPS) suite of programs used by many leading airlines, airports and ground handlers around the world.
