Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) July 29, 2004 -- Eve Ikuenobe-Otaigbes TANGLED is an engrossing story about the trials of a struggling but proud family in the slums of Lagos, Nigeria, one of the worlds largest, most dangerous and most fascinating cities.
The result of several years of prodigious reporting, Tangled is lean and spare. It checks in at just 134 pages. It is a tragic page-turner that is written with the verve of a journalist and the knack of a professional storyteller.
Tangled is a moving tale that is largely told through the eyes of Onyinye, a college-aged woman with big dreams who must choose between her morals and helping her family survive; her sisters; her brother, Nduka, who migrates to the United States where the American Dream eludes him; and their father, a retired, low-ranking civil servant who wallows in the past while struggling to maintain control over his troubled family
Through the eyes of these characters, Tangled provides an insightful look at several critical subjects -- poverty, female circumcision, the continuing struggle for womens equality, the African experience in America and AIDS. The novel also gives a birds eye view of life in Lagos, the biggest city in one of the worlds largest countries. Otaigbe captures details of life in Lagos with the same brilliance that Dickens wrote about 19th Century London. She interprets humanity by writing in the context of the African experience.
